Gosh Frankie, what are ya gonna do now? No fire department for you or at least not the volunteer firehouse near you. No funding so they close it. Just knowing the area and it is a wide area, I would say it was well needed.

It is sad to see any volunteer fire department fail due to financial problems. Now it will mean a longer response time for the City of Rome or Lee Center to respond.
In all honesty, I have to admit, that it will not have that much impact on safety. The Westernville department covers the East side of the Lake, Lee Center covers the area where your camp is Sunshine, and the city of Rome is less than 5 minutes away on Black River Blvd. That does not make it any easier to swallow, to see the Lake Delta firehouse close down, and the residents on Williams Rd, and in the "village of Lake Delta" left without their own firehouse within their neighborhood.
How about a link to a story that you are referring to, or a reference so we can look it up and check it out for ourselves Bobbbiez.

I was wondering because I could not find anything about it in the OD, Sentinel, or UDN. Tell us what is going on, and why they are closing the Lake Delta firehouse. I taught a couple of EMT courses there years ago, and it was a very active and viable small fire department, with some dedicated people and some real nice equipment. I think there was some rivalry between the Lake Delta department, and the "Baker and Baker" fire department and politcal show in Lee Center.

Thanks kiddo for the reference to Channel 10 news. I just went there and read about Lake Delta Fire Department. Hopefully they will find the money to pay for the workmen's comp.
I bookmarked the Channel 10 News site. It IS a pretty informative site. It is amazing that they get the news and the Utica Rome area outlets don't report it. Hmmm. What's with that?

Just heard because the Delta Fire Department has no compensation for their workers is the reason they have closed. Supposedly they are going to have a meeting to discuss a solution so they can keep it opened. "That's all folks!" Happy Easter! Catch y'all later. ;D

Communities are so close and have proved time and time again that they can come together and support each other as far as raising money for charities, benefits, collection, raffles and etc.
I am surprised something isn't being planned to raise money and support the Fire Department. When a neighborhood starts losing some of their identities such as the Fire Department, it won't be the same old neighborhood and the local residents will start to keep to them selves like a big city.
I sure hope this will get worked out and the Fire Department will get to stay.

I haven't heard any news, yet. LDFD doesn't have a coverage area of their own. For years they have worked under contract with Lee Center (Baker & Baker, heh) and the City of Rome. If I recall, when 911 dispatches Rome to a call, they also dispatch Lake Delta to send equipment to the Rome station to sit as backup in case another call comes in. They are rarely dispatched to a fire in their own neighborhood but do respond to calls in the southern portion of Lee's zone.
City of Rome was considering reducing the cost of the contract with LDFD. That may be what is causing this upcoming announcement.

I think we should use caution about throwing phrases around like jeopardizing safety. In the case of LDFD, there should be no impact on levels of safety. Lake Delta has been a second response unit. Rome will still be the first responder.
Look, when government is providing service at a level it can no longer sustain, cuts have to be made. I am grateful that Rome, unlike any other government body in our region, has prioritized the services and made the tough decision.
