Where have you been hiding Gear? I miss your perspective on stuff. Sadly, I realized that people get exactly the kind of government they deserve.

Well Hell Gear. Just because we get the kind of government that we deserve doesn't preclude your offering your comments. Geez, I still miss the "Snakepit blog". Come on. Don't keep all that opinion to yourself. You will choke on it, haha.

UDN Headline today: "Popular actor encorporates Herkimer into new project."
Now they've even lost their speller.
Now, that's really poor!

I think I've found the secret to getting quickly to the good stuff on UDN. Scan for the articles on which frank has commented and read those.

I have noticed myself Clarence that the page is very appealing to the eye, with the graphics etc, but it hard to find things on there. You have to browse around and dig for anything of interest in many cases.
Hopefully, it will be fine tuned, and things will be reorganized and shifted around to make it easier to navigate and to sort out and read the items that interest you.

Dave, I agree. uticadailynews.com/ is really doing a great job. They are sending reporters to all meetings and events. That's already better than most news outlets. WKTV doesn't cover anything unless it's an obvious story. UDN also has great photos and videos of news events. It's still growing, but I really like what they are doing so far. Their reporters are very down to earth and not at all pretentious. They also do their research. A lot of people are reading their website for the news now. It's pretty exciting.

I read the police blotter everyday. It must amaze some folks that think the cops are sitting with Ralph inhaling coffee and donuts for their entire shift. I didn't stop to count the number of dispatches, but I don't see much room for goofing off with the number of calls that the department responded to.
I am pleased with the format and the content that UDN has brought to us, and I personally think it improves with every day and every story. I am happy that they publish the police blotter. It is very enlightening to the readers, and gives us an idea of what goes on in the city in a 24 hour period.

Yeah sure Bobbbiez. I worked nights at the OD and traveled all over the city, plus I also have a cop in the family. I really was quite aware without you OR the UDN page. Y'all is a pretty broad group of people, but it doesn't include me.
Good grief, one would have to be blind to not know how much crime and police work is happening in the city, or to see that it is taking place all over the city. When I worked at the OD the most activity was near James and in West Utica around Sunset and Lincoln Ave near Noyes and Oswego. Also around the projects on Culver Ave. That is where my drivers were most afraid to get out of their trucks to make a delivery. Now it is widespread and covers all the city's older neighborhoods.
Hell in the ten years since I worked downtown at night, I am sure that the "cancer" has spread. I would not want to be a cop in the city at this point in time. God bless them all and protect them.

Y'all means two or more. ;D Y'all would be mighty surprised how much of the general public has no conception of just how dangerous our streets have become and how fast the disease is traveling. Don't know if they truly have their heads in the sand or they just want to ignore the whole situation because they live in a safer part of the city "for now" and it might mean they'd have to get involved in things to correct the problems we're facing. I vote for the second. Trying to recruit people into neighborhood groups can't tell you how many times I have heard, "not a problem in my neighborhood," and yet they live in the same city. Duh!

Now, now kids. LOL. The UPD is doing a fine job. Crime is down over the last two years. West Utics, unfortunately, has become the hotspot for crime. But overall, I don't see a problem walking any area of the city. You will always have crime, but very little of it is random.
