Ok, Governer Patersons budget is out. Taxes, Taxes and more taxes!! An increase in spending of 8.7% !!! (10 BILLION Dollars) I love what RoAnn Destito, D-Rome said: We have said there was going to be pain in this budget and we spread it not just to working families, but to the higher earners,”
OK, just where are the higher wage earners? I look around this area and there is hardly anyone else left who can afford this. They all voted with their feet. What do you all think? RoAnn is going to vote for this. State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-Rome, called the budget “disastrous" so he's not going to vote for this. What do other politicans think of this?

I'm having a little trouble following the math here (from the OD report but available from other sources I'm sure):
' “State spending was actually flat,” Paterson said. He noted that more than $6 billion of the spending increase is with federal economic stimulus funds, not state dollars. “If the Legislature can maintain this type of fiscal discipline over the next few years, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.” ' "Paterson emphasized that the $10.5 billion increase in spending is comprised mostly of more than $6 billion of federal stimulus funds. While the total budget deal, including federal funds, includes one of the biggest increases in spending ever and double the size of the 1997-98 budget, Paterson's budget division said state spending will increase just $642 million. That would be 0.8 of 1 percent more than current state-only spending of almost $77 billion."
Spending is almost flat if we don't count the part that we pay from another pocket. I'd better hide this from my wife before she uses it to prove to me that it won't really count as spending if we get a new couch for the family room and pay for it with a credit card and replace my 10 year old car by using a loan from GPO.

Who the hell continues to vote for Roanne? It is obvious to me, even from afar, that she is in it for her own wealthy ass, and could care less about YOURS. She needs to be defeated in her quest in Albany. At least she will have a lesser impact if she runs for a local or county office. Let's be real folks. Do you honestly believe that someone that owns a property that looks like the Beeches in Rome REALLY has YOUR interests in mind, or the interests of those living below poverty level? On the few occasions that I have listened to her speak on television, I was instantly aware of the fact that it was money that put her where she is, and not an overly high IQ.

"We need to find other ways to tax people" is a statement that tells me she is either ridiculously pompous and unfeeling, or JUST PLAIN STUPID! What the hell kind of a statement is that for an elected official to make?
I guess if she is re-elected again, I will be forced to realize that it is the VOTERS that are stupid, not Roanne.

That I agree with! I have asked numerous people why they keep voting her in, and they don't have an answer. That really pisses me off when someone can't give an answer. People don't seem to care and when they start paying the piper then maybe just maybe they will.

Nobody likes to feel stupid. Everybody likes to feel smart. So when they go into a voting booth, close the curtain and start scanning the names, they are drawn to names they recognize. They think to themselves "Hey, I know that person!" and they pull the lever above the name.
In reality, based on the performance of almost every elected person, wouldn't it be a lot smarter to vote only for names you never heard of before?

Have you ever looked at the opposition she has had for the last decade or so? The district has been handed to her.
One would think that a winning campaign slogan for any prospective opponent would be "We must find new ways of taxing people - Roann."
