Larry, very good. I'm no fan of Mr. Picente and I do hope you run against him someday.

Well said, Larry. It's a little heavy on the personal as opposed to issues, but I will grant that Picente set the tone that way. I think you do a good job generally focusing on issues.
This quote from Picente caught my eye -- He complains that the county is "unfairly lumped with The Big Spender through either sheer ignorance or political agendas."
Seeing that I have no political agenda, I guess I know what he thinks of me.

I encourage EVERYONE to go to Larry's link and read his blurb about the state of the county address.
I can't believe the audacity of Picente of all people to accuse anyone else of being an insider or of pandering to insiders. I can't believe that he wants to promote bipartisan cooperation, and then laces his address with blatantly partisan comments, and makes it quite apparent that HE is the last one on the Board to even consider cooperation with the Democrats. Picente is unbelievable. Who the hell does he think he is, telling the department heads that they should not answer questions from the minority?
This guy is a pompous ass. I hope that when the next election comes, he is up against a FORMIDABLE candidate that can give him a run for his money, and offer the citizens of the county an even shot at HONESTY IN GOVERNMENT at the county level.
It really IS time to clean house on the board of legislators. It is time for more young members like Larry, and more new blood, that are not indebted to the old guard for anything.
WE ALL BITCH ABOUT THE CRAP. WELL ELECTION DAY IS THE DAY TO FLUSH THE TOILET, AND SEND THE OLD GUARD SWIRLING DOWN THE DRAIN. There is NO other way to re-claim our county and save our budget from getting any farther out of control. It is time to vote for legislators that will do away with the EDGE contract, and promote a new and different approach to marketing the area.
It is time to do away with the combative approach to dealing with the OIN, and sit down and negotiate a settlement in GOOD FAITH. Win or lose, we have spent way too much money on Townsend's pissing contest with Ray Halbritter. There IS a peaceful settlement waiting somewhere in the wings, if we just sit down and negotiate in good faith. I am not saying just give in to the OIN, but sit and I am sure that the issues can be addressed and negotiated, one by one.
It is time to quit spending money on falacies such as the county airport at Griffiss without a solid return being guaranteed, or at least a feasible reality to be pursued. That contract alone, shows the insanity of Picente's band of thieves.
It is time for the Board of Legislators to represent the interests of the ENTIRE county, and not just Western Oneida County. Utica and the Northern portions of the county need attention also.
ONEIDA COUNTY EXTENDS BEYOND ROME AND VERONA FOLKS. Time for Picente and company to be ousted and for a fair and equitable board to be elected that will represent the WHOLE county, and ALL the taxpayers. Not just the chosen and privileged few.
Thank you Larry for being the eyes and the ears of the Utica area, and for being the mouth of the honest and honorable taxpayers. Keep up the good works.

Well said, Clipper! Thanks for all the kind words my friend. Things are starting to change, but it's going to take time and they aren't throwing the towel in so easy. I'm in it for the long haul though. Especially when I see folks like you all, that have been fighting the good fight much longer than me.

Picente accused others of being an insider? What a joke. The only reason he was "annointed" to C.E. are his ties to Griffo. Picente was hand picked by the powers that be to do their bidding & no way is he going to go against the status quo. It's business as usual in O.C. And he should be run out of office for saddling O.C. taxpayers with this sewer debt without bothering to do his homework, & for caving in to Albany beauracrats.

In Firefox the formatting for the page chops off the white text block before the end of the text, making it difficult to read. Other than that trivial issue, well said. If I could make one suggestion it would be a constant insistence upon benchmarks for each and every county program. The tourism brouhaha is a perfect example- without clear criteria for success it's impossible to evaluate performance. Insist that every program has goals and a plan to meet them.

Benchmarks & government programs?
When you have time look up Ambrose Bierce'sdefinitiion of "incompossible."

The tourism brouhaha is a perfect example- without clear criteria for success it's impossible to evaluate performance. Insist that every program has goals and a plan to meet them. That should be easy enough. Short term measurements are possible and could consist of filled hotel rooms, state parks, traffic counts, etc. Convert it to tourist dollars spent using standard procedures and divide by the county's investment in a tourism bureau for a figure of merit. A college intern could do the mechanics of the evaluation for free.

And when you find out it costs $2 for every $1 increase in tourist spending, be sure to add an executive assistant deputy administrator to the payroll.
