On the news wktv, our mayor is having a difficult time coming up with a budget that will really tax the citizens. I still say raise the sales tax.

Roefaro doesn't need to raise the sales tax. What he needs to do is to cut out the bullshit. It's about time Roefaro stopped giving away the store to the police & firemen. Enough is enough. Roefaro's new retirement & health ins. plan giveaways for the above is costing the taxpayers of this city a fortune, & is one of the reasons for the tax hike. Just because the police & firemen's unions gave Roefaro their endorsement does that mean that taxpayers have to be continually sucked dry with tax hikes to pay for them? Hey, before you jump down my throat because I know it's not p.c. to critisize police or firemen, just remember that they already have an excellent benefit package with good pay. The taxpayers of this city can no longer afford to be bled dry by special interests like the above. Roefaro should stop with the quid qou pro bullshit, & start thinking of the taxpayers who have to pay for the one hand washes the other horseshit games that he is playing with taxpayer money.

If there were a way to tax BS we would have no problem funding any government programs.
Perhaps Utica could look into a local sales tax on funerals.

On the news wktv, our mayor is having a difficult time coming up with a budget that will really tax the citizens. I still say raise the sales tax. It's lucky he has a tax surplus left over from last year, and salt for the roads that had been bought previously when the price was down, to start with. We haven't really even had much of any snow this winter. If the sales tax were raised I'm sure the County would want a piece of that. (double-digit sales tax increase) We'll all be afraid of some outlandish increase and be so very thankful when it turns out to be a little bit less, and he'll be our hero again. Oh thank God, it was only 19 1/2 % instead of 21 %. Maybe next year we can look forward to having a triple-digit city tax increase.

My next (and only) hero will be the pol who REDUCES taxes. And my next YES vote for a school budget will be when it has been reduced and my taxes go down. I'm not expecting that very soon.

Roefaro is a genius. First he releases the bogus story about a double-digit property tax increase for the city, then he comes out with a 6% increase in his budget. Everybody is grateful and singing his praises now.
