Denny's slammed by breakfast giveawaywww.cnn.com/2009/US/02/03/dennys.grand.slam/index.html?iref=mpstoryviewDenny's restaurants across North America were jammed Tuesday with patrons hungry to take advantage of the restaurant chain's Grand Slam breakfast giveaway. Patrons line up early Tuesday outside a Denny's restaurant in Salt Lake City, Utah. Denny's announced in a commercial Sunday during the Super Bowl that it would give away its signature breakfast from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. local time Tuesday at all its restaurants in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. Media outlets reported customers lined up outside the doors of many of Denny's 1,500 locations. Some patrons were still wearing their pajamas and slippers, and strangers were crowding together into booths, CNN affiliate KSL-TV in Salt Lake City, Utah, reported.
A college student who identified himself as DeShawn told CNN affiliate KFSN-TV in Fresno, California, that he came out for the free breakfast "to do better in class -- brain food, you know?"Who'da thought?

I'm sorry Dave. I started another one about Denny's in the General Board before I saw this one but that's ok. They deserve double notice for the free breakfast they put on today for all. WTG DENNY'S! ;D THANK YOU. ALL WAS APPRECIATED.

Bobbbiez, did you have to stand in line long? You went to the North Utica one, right?

It was approximately 40 minutes before we had our food in front of us so I have to say we didn't wait long at all considering the crowds they had all day and we went at noon. My son went at 8:30 am and he said he waited about the same time but said, "all was worth it," and I totally agree. We went to Kirby's on Commercial Dr two weekends ago and we waited for a table for 35 mins and we had to pay for our food there. Denny's did a fantastic job yesterday and really deserve the praise for their food, service and attitude in giving back some much to the public. My hat is off to them and I will show my appreciate by visiting them more often. ;D I was also very impressed with the young lady at Denny's who took care of us at our forum get-together in Dec. She was very friendly, gave us great service and so willing to get us whatever we asked for. Couldn't have asked for better.

I never saw the big deal with eating at Kirby's. I used to go there with the ex and her family for birthdays and such. I can't say the food was bad. It was quite good. But good enough to sit on a wooden bench for an hour to get a table?? NOT! I actually like it better there when it was Mr. Steak.
We have places like that here also. If they don't take reservations, they don't get my business, unless I stop in and there is NO line for tables. I think any good restaurant is going to have a line during the dinner hour, and that is fine if a person doesn't make a reservation, let them wait in line, but a good restaurant should also care enough about regular customers to have a reservation system in place.
If I want to stand in line to get something to eat, I will go to Voss's in the summertime, and I don't do that either.

I will for their chili dogs. Can't forget the dairy orange either to go with it. ;D Sorry, but I'm just a sucker when it comes to chili dogs.

Same goes for Voss's Sunshine. I love their ham barbecue sandwiches, but I won't stand in line for one. They aren't THAT good. The best chili dog always has been and always WILL be the Patio. I don't go to Sonic here in the South because I don't like eating on fly infested picnic tables or in my car with my sandwich dripping on my shirt. Just a personal preference. Obviously judging from the lines, they damn sure have plenty of fans. Nothing against their food, but I don't stand in line to eat. I did that for long enough in the military. I sit down and I want to be waited on. Restaurant food should be dispensed by a good cook and delivered by a good wait staff, who keeps your cup or glass full and adds a little personal touch to eating out.

I love both Voss's and the Patio's chili dogs. I never compare them because both have different types of chili which I enjoy both equally. I'm use to waiting in line or in car for the food I'm wishing for. Remember I was brought up with car hops at Kewpee's and yes even the Patio. We always looked at it as meeting people we knew and a form of summer entertainment while waiting to pig out.

I spent too long driving over the road, and traveling for different jobs. I simply found meal time to be a time for relaxation and not a time to sit in the driver's seat with mustard on my shirt, or to wait in line for a seat in a crowded, noisy restaurant.
Other than pizza and wings, I am not much on fast food or junk food either. I am not some sort of purist, and yes I eat at taco bell once in a great while, or Arby's, but not often. I don't do McDonalds except for an occasional breakfast biscuit, and Burger King is disgusting.
If I crave something that is not good for me, it is a weakness for a good donut or pastry. I can't get good donuts here, so I seldom spoil myself with that stuff either.LOL
I was brought up on carhop food and stuff too. That is a fond memory, and I leave it a memory and spoil myself with a chair and table in later years. LOL.
