It's really too bad the disgrace will NOT print this NEWS! It is also too bad that most of the populace will only bitch about this and not actually DO anything to fight it!

I think you were "spot on" Larry!!! We've talked about this before and I agree with 100%.
Public service is and should be exactly that, serving the public. I understand that patronage is usual in politics, but in this day and age we need people that care about the people, not about what they can garner for themselves.

Works for me!
My favorite part is the expressions on the faces of the other legislators while you're speaking.

Great job, Larry - Hats off to you for saying what you believe. As I mentioned on another thread, I work for a local school district. The blatant nepotism and cronyism just amazes me! Being someone who was passed over for the opportunity to apply for a better postion as a direct result of nepotism - I can tell you that it hurt. I gave more than eight years of my life as a dedicated, reliable, honest, hard-working employee, only to have "a friend' of an administrator, get the job. They did some finangling, working with other agencies (Civil Service & BOCES), to assure the young friend (with no experience, knowledge or proof of reliability, etc) got the job. Now, they are doing some finangling to assure the young friend a new title, paying more than $10,000 more than that Civil Service title pays... As you said, it's true - people complain and talk, but never do anything. In my situation, I feel there really is nothing I can do. If I squawk, then I ruin the relationship with my boss. That certainly would not help. Back when the finangling was going on, I did stand up and address the Board of Ed about the recent hiring practices - they did not even bother to respond, after telling me that they would look into it. So, what can a person do about nepotism - in any area? Any ideas??

stilljugglin, I think you were referring to my comment about not doing anything. It appears you did try to do something when you spoke out to the boe. Certainly, in your situation, you should not be doing anything that would jeopardize your employment's security. But the masses should vote out the boe and demand a boe that will use more fair and more objective hiring practices. That's what I meant by people not doing anything.

Your experience reminds me of when i was in 9th grade. The position for first chair of the trumpet section was up for grabs. I was arguably the best. The kid who beat me out didn't qualify for all county, never participated in nysma competitions, and was not a member of our marching band. But his mommy "donated" an old computer to the band director, loaded with all the latest software. I used it once, the damn thing was state-of-the-art by the standards of the time. Unfortunately, the best person will never win the most deserved job.

Hey Concerned, What would I do without your words of wisdom? I'll be sure and keep your advice in mind. So, what have you "advanced" to? You seem pretty angry!
