This is the issue conservatives have been worried about. The concern is that the new administration will do less that take a tough stance with Iran. I believe it's possible for the US to stand firm while being conciliatory. It means deciding our lines in advance and holding them after making a conciliatory gesture. Let's see if they can do it. I'm unsure about the level of statecraft in our new administration. Clinton era politicians newly appointed to Obama's cabinet certainly have nothing in their statesmanship resumes to brag about. Our new secretary of state, though a talented person, is a former First Lady, and more recently was a reluctant spear carrier for Senator Chuck Schumer.
