Ya know, my knowledge and experience are for the asking. I will gladly sit down with anyone that wants to and play either teacher or devils advocate.
Larry and I have sat and talked on many occasions, and I have learned from him and hopefully he gleaned something out of it as well.
The trouble for so many years has been that money talks and BS walks, sad truth of the matter.........until recently and hopefully in the future. Most people used to vote for whoever made the biggest noise and splash without ever listening to the content and recording the results for the the next time around.
Now people are beginning to question more as their belts are becoming ever tighter. Used to be that Government was the teat that everyone was able to get nourishment from in abundance, so no one minded that much paying in.
Today we have the Government demanding more more more and giving less less less.........so the people are starting to watch Governments wallet as well as their own.
If you can't account for what we give you by supplying the people with what they at least need, you may now have a problem getting elected again.
When you get down to the local level as a city council person, the waters get even murkier. In Utica they have only recently reacquired some of their powers back, not that they can or know what exactly to do with them!
They have no real power to play with, so they play the favors game with each other and each branch of the City Government in their effort to try and appease the people who don't really have a clue what is going on. The people ask for the world when are lucky in reality if their councilperson can even provide them with a paper plate at the end of the day.
And the ones you need to reach who do vote are buried so deep in the system you will be lucky to find them. But they are the ones that really care.
Sad part is the ones who actually get out there to vote are the same ones participating in the favors game.
"Tell me not what you can do for my city, but what you can do for me."
