I'm unable to get into most of the threads. When I look at a list of threads, some are blue in color and other's are brown. When I click on any brown thread, I get a 404 and the url line reads: clipper220.proboards66.com/undefinedI can't post or even read the threads. I don't have this problem on any other site. I'm not a member of any other proboards site, so I can't try it elsewhere.

I tried several. It might have been a temporary thing.

Are you still having the problem Dave. I am sorry that I am so technically challenged and can't be of assistance. Ralph will probably be on in a little while and will most likely be able to help you. He has more than one site that he uses on Proboards and is familiar with the proboards workings.

Jon, maybe there's something I'm supposed to set in my Opera browswer. Yes, still having the problem. I think I may have had this problem before, come to think of it. But I never remember setting anything in particular. I had to switch back to Opera, because Firefox really gives me performance problems., t hough I like it. Clipper, yes, I was hoping Ralph might be around, given the weekend. I'll wait for his response. Thanks.

Firefox really gives me performance problems., t hough I like it. I use Firefox. The performance problem I find is that Proboards is having trouble bringing in the ads. When this happens when I refresh [F5] as soon as I see text I hit the stop button. Otherwise it sits there churning forever. Another thing if you have GMail open, some times it's trying to load a script file and will drag your system down to a crawl. Best to shut it down and open it later.

I don't now Dave, sounds like your problem is in Opera somewhere.
Pro-Boards is usually pretty compatible with most of the browsers that I have come across, though I tried Opera and it drove me nuts!!
Just for the record; at present I am using an older eMachine T-2875 tower with an AMD Athlon XP 2800 @ 2.09 Ghz. I have 2GB of installed RAM as well as a separate video and sound card, so the RAM is not shared by anything else. I run both 19" widescreen LCD and 17" LCD monitors off of it and usually have a Firefox browser window open in each when I am on as well as Word or something else going while I am working on something.
I also run IE during the day along with both other FF windows as the real time data server we use for work (Red Prairie/Blue Cube's Radiant system) is not compatible with FF. In the background I have avast! anti-virus, Windows Defender, ThreatFire and Outlook 2003 running in real time as well.
This machine also acts as my server at present with an extra 200GB HD which is shared as well as printer sharing through it on the houses network with three other PC's as well!
I mention all this gobbledygook only because I manage to do all this and usually never have a problem with performance on FF. IE sucks and drags like trying to walk a dead cat at times thought!!
The only time I have issues is when I am trying to do work with Adobe Photoshop CS2, which is a HUGE resource hog.
Most issues I have are from not ever turning the damn thing off! Usually a re-boot once a week or so solves all that.
Sometimes you have to delve into and play with the security settings or with the msconfig section as in what starts up and runs or what sits idle. Right at the moment I have FF open to this board, another Pro-Board open in another FF browser on the other monitor, Windows Media Player plinkin' out some tunes in my headphones, Adobe Acrobat with my ServSafe notes I am studying as well as the rest of the crap monitoring everything as mentioned. My CPU usage is hopping between 10 - 35% and my Page File Usage is around 725 MB. Yes, FF is the biggest "hog" sucking up around 113,000 K of memory, but I have no problems doing whatever I want.
My best advice to anyone out there with performance problems is to max their PC out with whatever RAM it will hold. I don't know a thing about Vista other than it is a RAM hog. XP on the other hand is about as good an OS as I have seen for a PC. But it takes 256 MB of RAM just to make it boot, 512 will let you run but you will have nothing but problems with it bogging down at crucial times. 1 GB will let you cruise along at a decent clip and 2 GB should let you do just about anything. So max out that RAM if you can.
Keep in mind that DVD recording or any type of video work is another story altogether and best suited for a PC dedicated for just that purpose.
Other than that if there is anything I can help you with, feel free to let me know

Thanks, Ralph. Yes, I know I have a memory problem here with only 1/2 Gig, but that's not what is happening with Opera. Actually, Opera seems to be the fastest browser in small memory machines. And I have turned off a lot of junk using msconfig in both the startup and services categories. This problem is simply one of proboards returning "undefined" when I click on a thread. One never knows, but I don't think it's a memory problem. I'm going to try Jon's suggestion and see what happens.

I've just been playing with Google Chrome and have the same problem on ProBoards as I do with Opera, described above. In fact, even worse, I can't log in using Chrome.

I just joined another proboards forum ( garbage.proboards60.com/index.cgi ) Don't ask me how I came to choose that one; I'm not even sure I know what "garbage talk" is in that context. Anyway, Opera has no problems at all over there.

Dave, I just popped off a PM with a technical question of my own, that hopefully with your writing and publishing experience you can answer for me. Get back to me buddy. You guys are WAY over my head with this thread, haha. I also went to the link for Garbage. I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU PICKED THAT ONE EITHER!
