Dan, that's all well and good but most problems we face today are not of our own "individual" making. We as one can not solve the world crisis. Not saying we shouldn't try but it's not reality and I'm afraid it will go no wheres. I'm afraid we do have to put our trust in the ones in power. All I am trying to say is I have more faith in Obama then I've had in any President or politician in many, many years. I do feel he will do the best he can for "all" in this country. Do not believe he wants to do anything that will fail. Do believe he wants to make history and become the best President we've had for "all." He's not God. He is human and I'm sure he will make mistakes but not done with the intent to hurt us any more. He also does not make all the decisions by himself and will have alot to battle from within, which he is already doing. I put my faith in many things. Such as my decisions as a parent, as a spouse, as a friend and as a provider of my household. My greater faith is in my maker but I know he gave me a brain to utilize and not to always depend on him for all I ask. I pray everyday that he guides me in making the right decisions but I know he ain't gonna hand me my mortgage payment if things get out of control that I can't control, such as taxes and etc. I am praying he will guide President elect Obama in making the right decisions on "all" our behalf. I totally respect your opinion. This is mine. "Amen" to that!

All those cows wanting to go to California definitely have not seen Country Gal's farm and barn. They would think it was a resort hotel. The whole damn barn even has rubber matting, so the cows don't have to stand on concrete. I am surprised that they don't all have little plaid jackets to protect them from the draft, LOL. Not only was the barn clean, the cows were clean also. I think it has been rumored that CG applies Secret underarm deodorant to their armpits every morning when they are milked, and gives them a little squirt of feminine hygiene spray under their tails, but I have not been able to find out for sure, haha! ;D ;D ;D ;D Oh yeah, she also rubs their udders with Oil of Olay cream to prevent wrinkles and dryness or sagging boobies. CG and her husband's family run a really modern and clean dairy. I was amazed with the magnitude of the operation and how clean and neat it all is. California cows may want to change their minds and go to CG and Tony's place on vacation, LOLOL.

Concerning "Mr. Doom and Gloom." I guess the truth really hurts and no one wants to hear it, but that is the way it is and the way I see it to. Feel totally the opposite on that. Don't think Obama is over- reacting. Just feel he is acting on all immediately. Plus, there are those that want to down play how bad things really are. He's telling us the truth.

I have to agree with ya Sunshine. The situation IS "doom and gloom" and Obama is simply calling a spade a spade and getting a leg up on the situation before taking over. It has been a unique transition period. Even Bush and his administration see the need to include the incoming administration in their dealing with the situation in the interest of the country. WE are in big trouble as a country and gilding the lily is not going to make it any better. Hopefully Obama will be able to assemble a team that can garner enough bi-partisan support to work for the common good. It is time to set aside politics and save our sorry asses from destruction from within.
I cannot believe that our government is "bailing out" all these entities. All we are accomplishing is to forestall the inevitable. Car companies need to suffer the results of their misdeeds and greed. Financial institutions need to be saved, but punished for their idiotic and self indulgent behavior, and their CEO's and executives need to be prosecuted for their malfeasance, and fired.
I find it ironic, even as a NASCAR fan, that the auto industry is STILL going to sponsor NASCAR teams and spend millions on research and developement at the racing level, while WE bail them out and support their overpaid, arrogant union employees and incompetent executives.
Detroit needs to fall on their ass, and pick THEMSELVES up and start over. Union contracts would be gone or renegotiated, and the industry would be a more level playing field. The union and shoddy workmanship put them behind the foreign automakers in competing for the market dollar. It has to stop, and a bailout is not the answer.
The whole damn country needs to step back and re-evaluate the way we do business. Who the hell ever thought that the government would have to make provisions for idiots that have gotten themselves buried in credit card debt? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to manage a credit card without becoming deeply indebted. Who would ever think that government regulation would ever allow them to charge such a usurious rate of interest or to market the damn cards like jelly beans to any and all that want to sign on the dotted line.
Sad to say, but maybe this whole damn country needs to fall on it's ass and get a reality check. WE have become spoiled, and stupid in the way we have done business. and we are now suffering for that stupidity. Between big business and politics, this nation has lost a lot of it's brilliance on the world stage, and it is going to take time to re-establish our image as a dominant world power and enviable society.
Hopefully Obama will be able to mend some fences diplomatically around the world without conceding any principles or power. Hopefully he will be able to bring an end to terror and will not set aside the efforts and emphasis on the war on terror. Hopefully he will be able to establish some bipartisan support and work TOGETHER to accomplish what is good for the country instead of what is good for the individual party and the politicians. I am not sure where this went away from the subject of the CIA appointment, which I, by the way, have my misgivings, but Obama has a full plate and hopefully his choices will work out for the overall good of the country.

Most business people I've spoken with say 2009 will be a tough year, but they're positive about the years beyond. Portfolio's won't begin to rise until probably 2010, and not return to previous levels for 5 more years. Still, times are bleak. I worry that Obama's "hail mary pass" of a trillion dollars invested will work. And if it doesn't , we will be in worse shape.
I'm anticipating that property taxes will zoom up terrifically, given the lack of other government revenue. Housing prices will drop, lowering total monthly payments for those who can afford them. More of that payment will go to taxes and less toward interest and equity, reducing wealth in the case of the latter. Those of us who today pay only property taxes on our homes will be the most surprised at our increase in the cost of living. Energy prices will go back up as soon as profits on fossil fuels are taxed to a) support more greener resources such as wind and solar, and b) bring green and non-green energy more into parity, thus magically making green energy more "affordable." It's due. I'm being converted to the global warming crowd, since I've been reading more credible sources than Janine Garafalo and other know-nothing celebrities. It may be too late to really solve the problem. Look for more nuke plants. There are 32 on the planning books now in the US, up from zero just a couple of years ago. I believe nukes CAN be safe; I just hope those wonderful power company executives don't skimp on safety to line their own pockets.
We'll survive. We may be spending more of our money on medical costs, taxes and energy, but guess what? That money stays here in the US, for the most part, as compared to all the money now spent at the malls on electronics that goes directly back to the Orient. When you pay $2,000 to a hospital for a procedure, instead of buying a new HD TV, you are supporting good jobs here at home. And an hour changing your bandages after an operation has got to be more worthwhile than a hour of Ugly Betty.

Last Friday's NY Times contained a news item hidden on page A-12 that revealed that the CIA claims to have executed an air strike on New Years day that killed two top Al Quaeda in northwestern Pakistan. I observed some speculation that the strike indicates that either the CIA has begun to obtain human intelligence or has been successful in getting Pakistan's assistance in gathering intelligence.
So just when the CIA is starting to make a difference, will Panetta make them stop?

I thought I read that the CIA began to turn the corner (back) and insert more people on the ground than behind desks in strategy tanks back in Washington. That was over a year ago, if I remember correctly. I have no idea where Panetta's nomination was born, but he'll probably do as well as any other figurehead. I'm not so sure there are liberals and conservatives in real public service, in the agencies. I think they're all realists or they're soon departed.
