Frankcor....Call me a week before and will give ya a ticket or two and easy directions. 724-6904 Bracket racing is is a handicap style of racing. In the old days of stock and Super Stock the smaller motor or slower car got a head start to make it an even race. Bracket racing is the same principle. Old days you had to win your "class" and then you qualified for the big eliminator until there was a final car left. Bracket racing....no class run off... everyone is in the eliminator and you don't know who you race til minutes before hand. IF thirty two cars show for the eliminator = 16 pairs with 16 winners and 16 losers. 2nd round gives you 16 cars which = 8 pairs...8 winners and 8 losers. 3rd round = 4 pairs etc etc. 4th round is the final 4 cars and the next round is the finals = 2 cars! like a pyramid til you have a final pair... the final winner and runner up.. You can have a 600 horse car paired up with a 4 cylinder Neon! Neon gets a big spot or head start and 600hp car has to beat it to the finish line. It's considered an even race with the spot or handicap start! There are Money classes and there are classes that race just for trophies. It's fun and you have to have knowledge of the NHRA Christmas tree start to be competitive. lot of great cars to see and your entry gives you the run of the place...you may want to bring a camera or video ( to take my photo of course lol ) to shoot the cars. also they race motorcycles, snowmobiles and what are called Jr. Dragsters for teens and younger. go to ESTADRAGS.COM and look at the results section, and the photo section link on the home page to see the range of vehicles racing. Red Light (leave to early) and you lose! the Trail blazer SS and the white Trans am are what I've played with since i returned to the sport. It's good clean fun and anyone can enter and be competitive.

Thanks for the offer, tracman. I'll call you then!
Thanks also for the description of bracket racing. It sounds familiar. The one time I went to a drag race it was at a closed runway on McQuire Air Force Base that adjoined Ft. Dix. We had a rare day off during basic training back in 1969 and I tagged along with some drag fans to watch.
Entrants, I was told, were "dialing in" their times. They had to predict what time their car would do in the quarter-mile and that would establish their handicap. The handicap was then programmed into the Christmas tree at the start of the race. Was that bracket racing?

That was Bracket racing! Too bad you weren't a trainee at Dix in 1970 or later...i was cadre and then a Reserve Drill Instructor there! Thats how i got to Atco, Maplegrove and Englishtown race tracks! I'll be glad to hear from you when racing starts!
