The oil companies and all their Executives! Up until 12/06, I worked from my home has an Insurance Auditor where I did many audits on Workers Comp policies. These audits are based on payroll records of ALL the companies' employes - including Executive Officers, etc.
You would be amazed at the salaries for the top Executives of these Oil Companies which exceeded our President's salary at least 4 times or more. IMO - no Executive is worth that kind of money.
I'll bet if these Executives took a 50% pay CUT - gas at the pumps would go down at least $2.00 a gallon - wouldn't that be nice for all of us working poor?

...and if you saw only their salaries, you saw only a small part of their compensation. Options, buy-outs, perqs, etc.

Perhaps if the price of gas keeps going up, cities and towns in this country will be forced to do something about public transportation. I'd use public transportation if it were accessible to me, but it's not unless I want to ride my bike 7 miles to the bus stop, which is right near an apartment complex that is under gang control. I'm not willing to do that! If it were safer, and if all the buses were equipped to carry bikes, I might, though.

From what I hear the majority of share holders in Exxon is the public who have retirement funds- But I cannever find what % of Exxon Shares are held publicly. Anyone know where I could find it.

According to the key statistics at Yahoo.com finance.yahoo.com/q/ks?s=XOM% Held by Insiders: 0.09% % Held by Institutions: 52.70% Less than a tenth of a percent is held by executives or board members. More than 52% held by institutions -- that's mutal funds that middle class Americans have in their retirement savings plans. If you own a large-cap mutal fund, you own some Exxon. Share price is up about 22% over the past 52-weeks. That's a good year. Not a great year but a good year.

By the way, an increase in value of 22% works out to be almost $100 billion (with a B). The compensation and bonuses for managers is tiny reward for what they've earned for the stockholders.

Given that "earn" is the operative word, I suppose one could suggest that Al Capone "earned" a lot of money for the mob. Hard work deserves its reward.

You can get more with a gun and a smile than you can with just a smile. -- Al Capone

I never new the Big Al had such a way with words. That's a great line. Which song is Henley's quote from? I've heard it, but can't place it.

Well pretty soon we'll all be needing that briefcase full when we go in for a fill up!

And another thing, my sis lives in Syracuse. Why the hell is the gas there 20 cents a gallon less than in the Utica Rome area?? I couldnt believe when she told me she paid $3.25 when I got gas for $3.45 the same day. ?

We paid $3.18 at Costco yesterday, but I've seen it as high as $3.25 at some of the more expensive stations. I think WalMart is about $3.19 or so. We're going camping 4 hours away next week, but I think most of our camping trips this summer are going to be within an hours drive from our house if these prices continue. And when we're up in NY this summer, I think we're going to park the truck and ride our bikes just about everywhere! Well, maybe not Syracuse, but we can certainly bike back and forth between Clinton and Utica!

I see differeces of 20 cents or more per gallon here in the Hudson Valley on a regular basis, even between towns only 5 miles apart. Beats me.
