It's amazing. I was just reading my local paper, which quoted a town official who said he was trying to get the budget to agree with "the reality of these economic times." Maybe I'm in a bad mood this moring, but that irks me. What reality? The harvest didn't fail, the oil didn't stop coming out of the ground, the labor supply didn't dwindle. The oceans didn't flood out Wall Street. The bankers and stock manipulators went running headlong into a disaster and the feds sat back and did nothing about it. People are losing jobs, homes and savings because of an administrative screw-up, not the reality of a disaster.
I'll be asked to dig deeper into a shorter pocket to pay for local and state services I don't really need, because someone fell asleep at the deadman switch. Someone we elected or appointed to prevent such things. What reality? Where is the anger? Where is the recrimination? Where is the will to get together and throw these f**kers out of their jobs?
It's like someone cuts your leg off due to their inattention or malfeasance and offers in explanation, "Well, these things happen." ?
