Luck of the Irish Draws 40,000 to Utica
Utica - While the St. Patrick's Day Parade Saturday is the celebration of the Irish tradition, people of all cultures including Latinos, African-Americans and even Burmese refugees lined the streets to watch the grand spectacle. In this way, the parade is symbolic of the city's spirit. ### My, my, aren't we inclusive. The above is the opening of the Utica OD's online story about the parade. They just couldn't bring themselves to say it was an Irish parade. I don't think they would have used the same wording for a minority parade. Ya see, son, this parade isn't about the Irish, though that's Irish music you're hearing and Irish dress you're seeing and Irish whatever you're witnessing. I don't mind inclusion at all. "I sort of like the music." I do mind baloney written by kids. Irish Dave

“I love the bagpipes,” she said. “We are integrating.” ? I suppose this is what happens when you take a traditional ethnic holiday and have it reported on by someone that admittedly has absolutely no clue what she is reporting on and about as much experience as any new intern. The OD can kiss my Irish ass anyways.

Wow swimmy. Hope ya enjoy your pepperoni and cabbage, washed down with a good german lager. Haha. I can't believe that with all the irish employees there at the OD, and a publisher named Donovan, that they thought it proper to send a reporter that had no concept of Irish tradition, or ethnic pride for the holiday at hand, to report on the parade. the poor little indian girl was probably dissappointed that there were no elephants in the parade, and there was no curry available at the after parade celebrations. I am sure that the girl they sent, is an intelligent and well informed reporter, but not with a firm grasp of american holidays or what they mean to us all. She would have been better served and educated by reading a report from an irish reporter, as would the entire readership of the OD. I don't mean to come across as biased against the little girl, but gee whiz, they don't send a jewish reporter to report from a christmas party or to attend christmas eve mass at St Johns.

In today's ever intolerant politically correct society, I thought the article was written well.
In case patio is watching my posts over here, that's sarcasm.
