That is interesting Concerned. I already had a quick insight into some of that. I used to drive a truck, and was surprised to find the assortment of different items that we used to load from a warehouse outside Allentown Pa. It was owned by Nestle's and I loaded everything from candy to canned ground coffee under several brand names. Just about everything we purchase in modern times is either produced or marketed by a large conglomerate of some sort. Beatrice Foods is another major food outfit. They market Peter Pan peanut butter among other products.

Yeah, it's pretty scary to realize how few companies actually compete. All the brands are owned by a few major corporations.

Although interesting this does not come across as a big surprise. I think this is common for everything today. Very sad!

This ties in with the controversy over GMC's (genetically modified crops), that is now brewing at a higher boil in europe than in the US. The thought is that the large companies are interested in GMC only to save production dollars and that they are not really needed. Friends of the Earth maintains that the big food companies usually try to push their agenda by touting a future ability to serve the world and all the starving peoples, but in reality they are looking for larger profits. And starving people is largely a matter of profits and distribution, rather than actual food production. www.foe.org/

Off Topic Point of Interest - Beatrice Food is owned and control by a Divorced SINGLE woman that has more money than all the Posters on this Board combined. I should know because when I was employed by the large insurance company before I retired, I had to review and approve ALL her policies.
I wish I had 10% of just the jewelry and furs she owns. I retired in 1998 and she was only in her late 40s at that time.

When did profits become a bad thing? Let me put on my borrowed liberal hat here and say that although profits have built our great nation, there comes a time when business needs to take some responsiblity for the welfare of people. I'm one of those who believe that as a people we have granted through our laws some consideration to entitites who wish status approaching citizenship, but who are in fact paper organizations. In return for that privilege, businesses should be of some use to society. In a "raw" democracy, business would have no special status nor be taxed, etc. Profits would be shared out to whomever derives benefit and reflected on individual tax returns. Something which has always made sense to me, by the way.

;D Thelma, if she owns controlling interest in Beatrice Foods which is a publicly traded company, I would hope that she is more wealthy than all of us combined. If not, I would be looking to trade any Beatrice Stock that I might own. LOL Listen to Thelma, swimmy. The lady is SINGLE! Hmmmm. Might be interested in a young stud with a legal background. Check her out swimmy. hehe!

LOL Clipper - Swimmy, Clipper has a point! She wouldn't be the first "Elderly" lady that had a bright, considerate, well mannered and educated "boy toy" to keep her happy. I'm sure she pays very well and the perks of the job would be a heck of lot more than you will ever see living in this area!

Hold out for marriage swimmy! Make sure the prenup is favorable to your interests, and then get a license. Don't end up with your picture, posing in a bathing suit, on top of a yacht like Spitzers bimbo, haha. Go get em cowboy! Thelma, she was 40 in 98. Elderly lady?? Damn, I don't consider myself young, but at 61 I don't hardly feel elderly! Hell, when I saw you at Christmas, I would not decribe you as elderly either! Haha!

Depends on the time of day you see me, Clipper. If it is after 11PM at night or before 10AM in the mornings, I feel like I'm 120 years old - LOL.
But thanks for the nice words anyways. When you get to be my age, I don't hear those compliments as much as I did when I was in my 20s and 30s, and even a few times in my 40s - LOL!!!!!!

;D Hell, I would love to see ya after 11 at night, I bet you are cute in you jammies with feet and a few curlers, hahahaha. I will have to bribe Ashley to send me a photo! LOLOLOL! As for mornings, I don't want to see ANY woman before 10 AM. I am not ready for visuals yet at that time of day. I have my first cup, and read my paper, then after a couple of more cups, and pouring a cup or two into Kathy, I am ready to open my eyes all the way, and greet the day. Hell, I ain't pretty in the mornings either!! (and that is a no shitter) haha. Come to think of it, I am not pretty no matter what time of day it is. Hmmm.

Thelma, you are soooooo hot.
Dave, I agree. Corporations are creations of the state, and as such, must be subject to state oversight. But, profits create jobs and wealth for a lot more people than just corporate management.

Well, Clipper and Frank - you both have put a smile on my face and vigor in my bones - LOL. I even feel like having enough ambition to make Alfredo Fedicinni for Ashley and me along with garlic bread and a nice salad.
What more could Ashley and I ask for? Will be back later.
