Very well put Todd. I agree with you. It is a tough task that Obama has ahead. He says he will hit the ground running, but I hope he doesn't get in any hurry to deal with issues that have taken years to develop, and will take years to resolve.
At this point, I think he actually has a better chance of uniting people of different races, than he does of uniting people of two political parties. The damned infighting that has taken place in the halls of congress for the last few years will not be settled with one election.
The nonproductive partisan BS takes away from important issues of world concern. It is time for ALL politicians on both sides of the aisle to "get over themselves" and get back to doing the job we elected them to do.
I will be looking forward to seeing what "Change" is going to be all about. I am sure it will be nothing like the pie in the sky promises of the campaign, but I hope it is adequate to resolve SOME of our economic issues.
As far as "redistributing the wealth", that theory scares me. I can almost stake my life on the fact that I will not be one of those on the receiving end of that idea. I will be on the PAYING end, just like I always am.

Well we're movin on up, To the east side. To a deluxe apartment in the sky. Movin on up, To the east side. We finally got a piece of the pie.
Fish don't fry in the kitchen; Beans don't burn on the grill. Took a whole lotta tryin', Just to get up that hill. Now we're up in the big leagues, Gettin' our turn at bat. As long as we live, it's you and me baby, There ain't nothin wrong with that.

George Jefferson is not presidential material, but might make a great White House butler. Louise, on the other hand, would be a formidable First Lady.

It's going to be a bumpy ride with the jokes and inuendos. I have heard all about the watermelon garden replacing the rose garden, and the statue of liberty being replaced with aunt jemima. I guess folks can't just sit back and allow a black man to move into the whitehouse with dignity and respect. What the hell does the statue of liberty have to do with Obama?
Here in the south there are many who are making cracks much more racist and bigoted than the jokes about the gardens. I guess it is an ignorant world we live in, where color has to even BE a factor.
This is not pointed at anyone in particular, and I am simply making note of the stuff I have heard and read ever since election day and before. Just a personal observation and opinion. No offense meant to anyone.

Clipper, there's a local Baptist minister in these parts that is preaching to his congregation that the "end times" are near & that all better get right with God, etc., etc. because Obama was elected prez. I guess God is really pissed because a black man was elected, & it's all over soon. I'm not kidding, this guy is serious. What do you think of that?

There are a lot of paranoid baptists in this area that are expressing the same fears. I guess if you feel that you are right with your creator, there is no reason for paranoia, LOL.
When it comes, if those that believe in a hereafter are right, we will see a life after this one. If we are wrong, we will make some awsome compost or be turned to ashes by a nuke.
Why would God be pissed? Rumor has it that God is black! Hmmm.
I have faced death before, and I am not afraid. It is out of our hands, and Obama's too!!

There are different styles of Babtist, of course, from Southern to American Independent to all those little churches across the countryside who appear affiliated with no one but the pastor's accountant. Those involved in the End Times eschatology (Big word! It means how it all will end someday) list of number of factors that will indicate the Anti Christ is among us and the End Times will begin. It's a Christian concept, but borrowed from the Jews' Red Heifer story. (A Red Heifer is reported born fairly often these days.) I have never read that the AntiChrist would be of any particular race, so when I hear poor whites calling Obama the "beginning of the end," I have to assume it's a race thing. Anyone else following this?

A race thing as well as a paranoia about muslims and his alleged ties to muslim radicals. I doubt that he would be running for president if he was tied to radicals. I am sure that anyone tied to radicals would have been found out long before now and it would have been documented by the FBI or CIA.
I guess it is another case where I depend on the serenity prayer, and accept the things I cannot change, haha. I am not one of the men in black. I cannot stop destiny or fate. I guess those paranoid baptists need to call Will Smith and his partner.
I always feared that Khruscev would bomb the hell out of us too, but it didn't happen. Life is too short to live it in fear. I enjoy every day that I am allowed to open my eyes and take my first breath of fresh air of the day as I walk down the driveway to retrieve my paper from the newspaper tube.
What I don't understand is why these Baptists aren't simply getting their affairs in order and getting ready to go to that place that they tell their neighbors that God has prepared for their righteous behinds, haha.
I figure I will either go on to a better place when this world ends, or I will be non-existent, and won't give a damn one way or the other. LOL.

Some look forward to the Rapture, when the righteousness will rule. So, if you happen to be stuck on yourself and self righteous, you'll look forward to the End Times. You and I would not. Hahahaha!

The rest are too busy getting drunk on Friday and Saturday nights and then beating their wives into submission before Sunday services.

Clip, Dave, Ralph, boys you guys nailed it. Yea Ralph, I've been there too. Had more hate preached at me in 2 hours than I ever heard in my entire life & I thought I had heard it all. It ran the gamut from Catholics, to Mormrons to Presbyterians & so on. We're all no good sinners & don't forget to put in you're 10%, you know what the Bible says. I stopped going. I'm a hopeless case anyway & I can't afford to fork over 10% of my hard earned wages to this guy so he can remodel his kitchen {which he did} or so he can add to his gray suit collection on my dime. Hey, if there weren't sinners like us, preachers like the one I referred to would have to get a real job.

When I first moved here to Tennessee, there was an Italian restaurant here that was operated by a guy from Syracuse NY. There was a back dining room that was seldom used unless the place got crowded. On a couple of occasions we stopped there for lunch and observed a couple in that back room, sitting side by side, nuzzling each other's necks and sipping wine. The restaurant owner told us that it was a baptist minister, and someone else's wife, and that they came in every week, to sit and play footsie and get half shit-faced on cheap chianti. So if you are a member of his church, please be generous. The increase in fuel costs have cause the price of cheap chianti to rise significantly. Just cut out the middle man and make our your tithe checks to the Vineyard Restaurant.
