Well, Obama made history. It was a great night and I know that many differ on who they supported. But now that it's over, I think we can all agree that it was a historical election year and let's all hope that he is successful. McCain gave a very classy speech. Hanna v. Arcuri This was the shocker of the night, and maybe one that brought me a few enemies. In what everyone expected to be a blowout for Arcuri, Hanna is still within stricking distance. Even if the numbers hold up, it was a real blow for Arcuri to lose Oneida County and Herkimer County.

He deserves to lose his position! But he got lucky that the rest of the district was not privy to the savvy reporting of wktv.com and voted for him in large numbers, it's the only reason he won.

Well, certain Democrats weren't happy to see me at Hanna's party last night. I'm sure they'll seek their usual retribution now. Politics as usual. Or maybe I'll be more optimistic and maybe they'll realize that it's time to start putting the people first and stop pandering to people like Picente.

I will have to leave you my big paddle when I die. It is good for stirring the pot and making the good stuff come to the surface, while smacking down the bad. You need it in that simmering pot of miscreants that you have been elected to serve along side of. Hang in there buddy. You are doing great so far, LOL.
I am not an Obama fan, but I am sure we will be okay. He is a smart young man, I simply don't think he is experienced enough to take on the presidency. He may be too naive and end up simply doing the bidding of the party, with no questions asked. sorry Larry. I have no respect for Nancy Pelosi, Kennedy and some of the others on that side of the aisle.
Hopefully he will surround himself with the experience that HE himself lacks and all will be well with the world.

It might have been a blow to Arcuri to lose Oneida and Herkimer counties but it shouldn't have been a big surprise. Sh*t, he knows he hasn't done a thing and has become a "yes" man for those who have been in for years now. I for one did not vote for him and am very disappointed with him. He should have remained as the DA. He was very effective in that position.

Now Clipper, do you really believe any candidate really has the experience to take on the Presidency? Never been there but I do believe NO ONE, no matter how long they've hold a political seat knows what they're getting into until they're there. That's why most of them turn gray before their term has expired. ;D Time will tell if Obama can handle the pressure but I don't see him as a naive man and I don't see him as a man that will do his party's bidding. I truly feel and believe him when he said he will be a President to all. I see him as a very strong man with a lot of new ideas and who will not be afraid of standing up for what he feels is right for all.

Hopefully time will ease my concerns. I see a brilliant young man with an enormous mission ahead of him, and can only hope he is able to surround himself with competence and experience in the areas where he is lacking, as do most presidents. I only hope none of his alleged cronies and evil doers from his past show up in his cabinet. If he remains democratic and doesn't lean toward socialism, he will make me happy. While congress keeps the president in line here at home and in legislative decisions, his diplomatic missions are his own, and his conversations with other country's leaders are straight from his own mouth and his own mind. That is where he needs to shine and to restore faith in both the US and in democracy in general, and carry the true wishes of the people of this country to a worldwide audience.

I don't like Oprah being in his back pocket. hahaha... I told my husband this on election night it is what it is and maybe he will do a good job. Just be postitive and hope for the best. Now this is how a friend put it to me: This is our country and no matter what, no matter who the president is we should love our country.

Larry, the other politicians are just miffed because you are the ideal politician. You care about the community you serve and work hard to actually improve its situation, not get fat and rich off taxpayers' backs. The rest of them don't like being reminded that they are public servants, not kings with peasants for voters to make them rich at their expense. With more politicians like you, this county, this state, this country could be great again!

With more politicians like you, this county, this state, this country could be great again! Or, the other politicians could be looking at Larry as a loose cannon. He gets to grandstand while they have to get in line and heave-ho with the rest of their party. Perhaps the other politicians see themselves as financially (or whatever) tied to their parties and unable to speak their individual minds. Perhaps Larry has an advantage of independence and they resent this. I don't know any of this, I'm just speculating, based on the premise that the entire county legislature are not a bunch of bums ... probably. And I certainly appreciate Larry's spirit and good will. He's breath of fresh air in politics. He means to do good and he has done so. But to bring real change to the county, Larry will have to reach out to those who are now his enemies and help bring them to their individual capacity to govern responsibly. We can spark interest in change, but we can't do it alone. Free advice from Dave, take or leave as desired. Hahahaha!

Fact of the matter is that you are both right.
You can bet that they would govern better and with more thought if it was their money they were spending instead of ours

Dave, I take all advice seriously and thank you very much for your suggestions. I've actually thought long and hard about what you said (now and in the past couple months). One of the problems is that, for some reason, many of the other legislators are just there to take up space. I don't say that without thought either. There are a few really good legislators, but the majority simply won't listen to reason or are too scared to buck the good ole boy system. A few of us first termers have made some progress, but I've come to the conclusion that real change will happen when we get a whole new bunch in there.
This isn't to suggest that I'm always right. But these folks don't even deliberate ideas and proposals based on merit. They simply do what is told of them. The culture of Oneida County politics is very deep rooted. Now, they will scream that they don't just "do what they're told", but I can give 100 examples of times that I purposely presented things that there would be no way they would all agree with certain ones and not others, when a couple of minutes earlier the Chairman told that was exactly what was going to happen. Is he simply a prophet?
My style is certainly aggressive, but that is the platform I ran on. I refuse patronage jobs, money, favor, etc. I will act independant of any group or party. I will fight tooth and nail to end the political culture here and restore the people's voice. I know it won't be easy, and I know it sounds like political talking points right now. But, as Ralph can atest to, that is what all of my campaign material said and that is what I will continue to do until the people tell me otherwise. I have no personal agenda and have called out Democrats, Republicans, Non-Profits, Private Corps., CEOs, Mayors, County Executives and everyone in between. My theory is that the only ones I have to answer to are the people that hired me.

Thanks Dave. I will certainly keep trying. We need more people willing to jump in and run too. These people aren't unbeatable, they just usually get no opposition or a token opponent. I would give up my seat right now if they would all agree to do the same and let a whole new board take over.
Corner, appearantly there are many others that agree with you. We need more independant minded people in office. Like I said, I'm not going to always be right but at least you will know that I'm doing what I think is best and not being controlled. And I won't ever forget who my boss is either...the people that elected me.
