I want to clear up a few things from today’s (1 Nov) OD article on Arcuri vs Hanna and Iraq and Afghanistan. First, Congressman Arcuri's 6 month re-deployment is not only reckless, it’s impossible. We don't have the airlift capacity to move over 120,000 people back to the US in six months. That’s not including civilian contractors and all of of the US military’s equipment. Congressman Arcuri is proposing the impossible. The second is the shear hypocrisy of Congressman Arcuri to say he want to send more resources to Afghanistan when he voted twice this year against funding operations in Afghanistan. Congressman Arcuri’s complete lack of understanding of military affairs is irresponsible and negligent for the office he holds.

Arcuri is the same sack of political BS that he has always been. His statements simply are made up to sooth the savage beast of the day. His rhetoric is based very minimally on his real opinion, but more on the opinion that is popular with voters on any given day.
He might be a great attorney, but he sucks as a congressman. He has always struck me as a little guy with a big attitude. If he spent as much time on his job as he did on his grooming and developing his "I love me" arrogance, he MIGHT cut it, but I don't see that happening in the near future.
It is not a hard choice to make. Hanna is the one to vote for, before Arcuri is allowed to flush any more of upstates interests down the crapper for his personal political gain.
He is no different that Hillary. She came to New York to ride our state to a presidential run. Arcuri is simply riding our asses for his own political gain. He may not be a carpet bagger, but he is not different in his goals while representing us. Congress is not his ulitimate goal, believe me. He has an eye on bigger things. I would not be surprised if he was looking forward a few years to a bid for governor. Then we WOULD be in deep doo doo.

I don't think I've ever seen a local politico more vilified with personal attacks the way Arcuri has been. First of all, he doesn't strike me as arroagant at all. Secondly, if Arcuri has aspirations for higher office than he is no different than some other local politicians that have used their political savvy to move up the ladder so to speak. Perhaps the attack dogs should direct their venom at some other local officials that have been or were in office for years, while accomplishing nothing. They seem to get a free ride while this area continues to suffer. Boehlert comes to mind. Arcuri has been in office for 2 years. Boehlert had multiple terms, did practically nothing for this area, but Arcuri gets the blame for the state of the local economy. It's too bad that Boehlert wasen't held to the same high standards by some that Arcuri is. Some people in this area just can't get over the fact that a Democrat was elected to that seat, & will stop at nothing until the seat is returned to the GOP. Great. We'll have a Democrat as governer, as president, congress controlled by the dems & if Hanna wins a republican in the House as our rep. When the next round of base closings comes up, we can kiss Rome Lab goodbye. How much clout do you think Hanna will have with Washington & Albany controlled by the dems? And when federal aid is doled out this area will get squat. So go ahead & elect Hanna, but don't whine when we get the power line or Rome Lab is shuttered. If some wish to label Arcuri as arrogant, then fine. But I'll take Arcuri's so called arrogance any day. It's far better than the condescending smirk that we had to put up with from Boehler for almost 20 years.

Respectfully, kracker, Arcuri made many promises that he not only failed to fulfill, but did the exact opposite. He dealings with the Oneida Indian Nation come to mind. So also his failings with securing funding or jobs for the area. Yes there was that 28.5 million dollar grant, but he promised to get state highways repaired and bridges fixed. What happened to the Route 12 expansion into a 4-lane highway? Or the arterial construction. And to be honest, he has not done much since his first few weeks in office when it comes to NYRI. Instead of STOPPING the project, he has worked hard at offering alternatives that won't run through his own backyard. Of course there is his shady campaign financing through Kristen Stiles and his refusal to be interviewed in person, on the phone, by questionnaires. Are you aware that arcuri owns several nonprofit organizations that receive thousands in state aid and have donated almost as much to his campaign? That's not arrogant or unethical?
I admit that Arcuri has only been a Congressman for 2 years, but he was the Oneida County District Attorney for 14 years. During his tenure as DA there were several wrongful convictions that resulted under his watch, the most recent being the Desiree Case case. In that case, Officer Smith was convicted of Desiree's rape and murder. All the while, a letter that was in the DA's file suddenly came to light. Yes Arcuri found it and fought hard to fix correct the wrong. But the letter was present from the beginning of the case, i.e. the wrongfully convicted man should never have been indicted!
It is the same thing with Spitzer, who claimed to be moral and honorable, but in the end proved to be no better than the criminals he prosecuted. Arcuri has done some very questionable things that go directly to the root of his honesty. I don't think the Democrats will control Congress. Remember, Congress has a lesser approval rating than President Bush; that says a lot!
I would rather try a person with NO political experience, no ties, and who won't be a lackey to the party bosses irrespective the detriment it poses to our district. I clerked in Arcuri's office when I was in law school. I voted for him the first time around. After the election, I started to do my own research on him and grew sick thinking I helped elect him into office. This isn't a matter of democrats. This is a matter of concern for our district which has been trampled on for decades. It's time for a change. Let's elect someone who is not a career politician, i.e. not arcuri!

Gee Kracker. I think you may be jumping the gun with the idea that there WILL be a democratic president. Get back to me on that TOMORROW night. As for Arcuri being arrogant, I guess you have never met the man. He IS VERY arrogant and self important.
Just in case Obama does win though, I should probably take my money out of the checking account and savings and put it in a safe deposit box, where it will be safe from "redistribution" to the non-working, and lazy.
I can't wait for MY health insurance prices to go up, so that I may pay for healthcare for someone else. I guess maybe some people need to be told the truth, and that is if you get a job, you get benefits. Maybe then, they will not be expecting the benefits from MY check, without the working part. Some young, able bodied, white parasite, with an alleged bad back, can go to the doctor on my dime, and then stop for a beer on his SS disability check, on MY DIME. Some young black man in Chicago, unable to get a job, won't have to look any more, because we will "redistribute" some of MY money to keep his wallet from running dry. The system as it is now, cares for the poor and disadvantaged. Any further redistribution would be unfair to the working class. It would only favor the NONWORKING class. The redistribution would not only affect the rich. YOU would pay your share also.
We may ALL be standing in line for government toilet paper distribution, and working long hours without overtime in his socialistic environment of government bringing BIG BUSINESS under control.
McCain may not be the greatest candidate either, but at least we will have "status quo" instead of becoming a democracy with a marxist in the highest office of the land. I don't care who thinks I am an old fart with no idea of what is needed for the country or not. I know what IS NOT needed for the country and that is Barrack Obama. At least with McCain, we know where he was born, we know that he is not in bed with terrorists and radicals. With Obama, that has not been determined. McCain has a birth certificate and is not afraid to show it. Where the hell is Obama's birth certificate? Was he spit on a rock and hatched in the sun or what? What is the big deal. Why is it a mystery?
I don't know about you, but I don't want our whole country to look like Chicago.I would much rather it looked like Arizona. If we ever had a viable candidate for the first black president, it was Colin Powell. He didn't fall in line with Obama by great faith in his agenda. He endorsed him out of his disagreement and disgust with Bush and the republican party. Powell is an honest man that did what he had to do to maintain his integrity. Somehow he is sacrificing it now, in backing Obama.
As for Arcuri vs Boehlert. Boehlert DID do well to keep Rome Labs. I worked at the base. You can blame Mario Cuomo and his big mouth for losing Griffiss, if anyone is to shoulder the blame. The sad fact is that the closing was a strategic move, brought on by the end of the cold war, not a political move. Politics got in the mix, but only in the process of trying to shift the closing to a different base. Cuomo ended up costing NY BOTH bases, Plattsburg AND Griffiss.
Arcuri simply doesn't get it. Arcuri is pandering to downstate interests and bringing little benefit to the upstate area. It is not a republican vs democrat thing. It is a case of who did what. Boehlert also played political games, but he sure as hell was not responsible for the sinking of the area's ship. Look at how many dems were in office at the same time.
Partisan politics takes the brunt of the blame for everyone's ills. It is not party, it is lazy ass, self centered, self indulging, politicians with nothing in mind but their own prosperity and agendas.
Politics is a cesspool of corruption. Larry Tanoury Jr is the very first politician that I have met in a long time that truly has the people's welfare in mind. We need more Larry Tanoury Jr's at ALL levels of government.
It is time for people to quit looking at the party vs party issues, and to start looking at the good of the country. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid make me just as nauseated as George Bush does. The country has become a victim of the hatred of the dems for George Bush, and all other issues have gone by the wayside.
With McCain we have a candidate that we KNOW is a patriotic american, and we know what his agenda is. With Barrack, we don't know, and there are many questions that I would not care to wait until after he takes office to find the answers. Starting with IS HE AN AMERICAN, and does he have AMERICA'S best interest at heart.
Arcuri is just a little pollywog in a big pond. Unfortunately, his pond is downstate and in DC and he doesn't bring much to upstate. So much for the Boehlert vs Arcuri issue. When Arcuri has been in the political arena as long as Boehlert was, he can call himself an accomplished public servant. Sherry started out as an aid in the office of Alexander Pirnie. Pirnie was a great man, and Boehlert was groomed by his experience working for him.

Oh, I get it now. Boehlert wasen't responsible for this area's demise after multiple terms, but Arcuri is after only 1 term. "Sherry" started as an aide to Pirnie as was groomed by him. Yep, we know that. And "Sherry" moved up the ladder to higher office which you find admirable in his case, but you slammed Arcuri in your other post for allegedly having aspirations for higher office. Interesting. No, I never met the man. But, I know people who know him well & he's never been accused of being arrogant by the people I've spoken with. He grew up in east Utica, applied himself & worked his butt off to get where he is today. Swimmy, I don't know what your problem is as far as the Desiree Case murder. You slammed Arcuri, then turned around & said Arcuri fought hard to correct it. So, what's the problem? Are you bringing it up just as an aside in order to attack Arcuri's ethics? I don't know how you expect Arcuri to secure funding for highway repairs. The last I looked, Arcuri holds office in Washington, not Albany. If you have a problem with that issue then take it up with Griffo or Destito. It's not Arcuri's job to secure state funding from Albany. As far as McCain goes, if he's elected I hope he stays healthy. The last thing this country need is Palin as President. She's corrupt, has little experience, & doesn't have a clue. McCain picked her in an attempt to grab the women vote, pure & simple. If that doesn't show McCain's lack of good judgement, & cynisism I don't know what does, but it's a good example. I'm sick of hearing about Obama's so called ties to terrorists. Care to address the Bush families ties to the Saudi royal family? Apparently, you don't remember that Saudi Arabia is a country that has a policy of harboring & giving safe haven to Al- Queida killers. Or that the 9/11 terrorist were from S.A. But, that didn't stop Bush from kissing the ring of King Fahd or calling them or ally. It's sickening. I'm done. I'm getting ready to go vote. Then it's off to work. Have a good day.

Kracker, please don't pick and choose what you wish to read...
Arcuri promised to secure federal funding for expanding route 12 and improving other roadways. Arcuri does serve on the Transportation committee. But I guess you want me to blame Destito and Griffo for that failed promise?! That doesn't make much sense. Arcuri is in Washington, not Albany, by your own admission. So how are Destito and Griffo supposed to secure federal monies from Albany?
I know him personally, he does have an arrogant air about him, but i think many mistake that for confidence. Care to explain his connection to Kristen Stiles? Or talk about why he won't do press conferences since her federal indictment? Or why he only responds to questions by e-mail, not in person or by phone? What is he hiding from?
You're right, no one ever slammed Boehlert openly for being a career politician. But you also are comparing apples to oranges. The Internet was not full blown enough during Boehlert's tenure for all this stuff to come out. And donna did a great job of abusing her power being the area's only newspaper to paint Boehlert in a positive light. In any case, the public is tired of career politicians running for office solely for personal gain.
Go vote, but don't do so blindly or ignorantly.

Corrupt? No experience? hasn't got a clue? Sounds like an assessment of Obama's qualifications to me! Add pompous, arrogant, Arcuri-like, mysterious when the time requires open and above board. Too many unanswered questions from the man. Bill Ayers was there to vote for him first thing this morning. Gotta believe the "buddy" relationship is real.

Is Bush gonna head over to S.A. again before he leaves offfice in January? King Fahd needs another ass kissing. For old times sake. Palin should prepare herself for a long look over the Bering Strait. That way, she can gain more foreign policy experience as she gawks at Putin's Russia just in case she ever again decides to run for office in Washington.

"Palin should prepare herself for a long look over the Bering Strait. That way, she can gain more foreign policy experience as she gawks at Putin's Russia just in case she ever again decides to run for office in Washington."
Not meaning to pile on here, but I'd like to address your assertion that Mrs Palin hasn't got the experience for the office.
Of the four candidates running for the top two spots she is the only one that has and administrative experience. In essence she has run a "business" where the other three have only senatorial experience. The business she has run is being the administrator for both a city and a state. You may say that both are small time, but she had to balance budgets, make payrolls, negotiate deals and as Governor of Alaska she was responsible for the only state in the USA that has two international boundaries, one of which is with our biggest adversary for the past 50 years. Alaska currently has the largest amount of available natural resources left in the United States, resources which include timber, gold, oil, fishing and a massive tourism industry. She has had to be the steward for all this and still deal with the nonsense from Washington. My attraction to her (if I can phrase it that way without getting in trouble) is that she is the quintessential outsider. The other three have been beltway boys since birth. Mr Obama has never held a private sector job, so too his VP pick. Mr McCain's only true job away from Washington was the military, which lands on the plus side for me, but it still doesn't give him the administrative experience his VP has. Senators have never had to budget to make a payroll, pay suppliers, save for a rainy day. They just write and pass bills (appropriately named) with money that they never actually see. A mayor or Governor is responsible for and to the electorate much more directly than a Senator.
