I opened a gmail account yesterday, and I can't figure out how to get my contacts from yahoo and hotmail over to the gmail.
They offer and option to import them, but it says choose the email account that you no longer want to use, which indicates to me that it would be deleting my other accounts. Is that possible, or is it okay to use that option to move my contact list.
I use different accounts to communicate with different people on different subjects and really don't want to close either of the other two accounts.
Anyone familiar with this process that can tell me if I will lose any data or contacts by using the gmail option to import them?

Clipper,
It's been awhile since I imported contacts on gmail. But if I remember correctly, the prompt is just to direct you to put the e-mail address of the account you are trying to import contacts from. It will not delete your other account.
What I did was export my yahoo.com contacts into a .CSV file onto my computer, then I logged into my gmail account and imported that file. "We support importing contacts in the CSV file format (Comma Separated Values)."

I don't ever use Yahoo for mail, however, to be on the safe side you should first export your contacts to a file, then open GMail and import that file. It's [alt] [file] [import] with GMail. Most likely [alt] [file] [export] in Yahoo. At least you won't be deleting anything. Good luck.

I kinda lost track of trying it for now swimmy. My dad is not good, and we will most likely be putting him in the care of Hospice. I have a meeting with those folks today. I will get back to it eventually, but in the mean time I will just send and email to my contacts to inform them of the gmail thing. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I'm sorry to hear about your father. I hope everything went alright today. I'll keep him in my prayers.
