www.uticaod.com/news/x1985674126/Board-passes-financing-agreement-for-intersectionLarry, please do what you can to withhold the county's approval. This is just wrong on so many levels. The State DOT insisted that it would not go forward with the original intersection plan for 840 until the town complied with state law and conducted an EIS and involved the public. As is obvious from the article, the town is going forward with THIS new plan to avoid having to involve the public. It appears that no resident wants this intersection. This is the type of stuff that needs to stop!

I was at the meeting last evening. The town was informed that it had not complied with the State Environmental Quality Review Act . . . of course, none of that made it into the OD . . . even though the speaker got a round of applause.
We were also told that Larry Tanoury was "on board" with the PILOT. Imagine that.

I drove on WoodsHighway the other day and noticed that they already have the new road paved to go to the Hartford.

There has been a light needed at Woods Rd/Rt. 5 for years. So many accidents there already.
The problem with all this NH BS, is that it seems not many people care. How many go to the meetings? Seems like not enough people want to bother.

Here's a cautionary tale for any town/city making "deals with the devil" through the PILOT program. It seems that Walmat is sueing Ticonderoga in order to prevent the post-PILOT program full assessment from taking place. What's to stop The Hartford from doing the same thing? Full article: www.pressrepublican.com/0100_news/local_story_261231539.html To quote the article: The lawsuit comes just before the PILOT agreement for the store expires, Town Supervisor Robert C. Dedrick said. "They (Wal-Mart) entered a PILOT program 10 years ago when they opened; that store is finally going to be at true valuation, and they turned around and sued us." Wal-Mart sues Ticonderoga

Walmart may think of it as "business as usual." But you'd think any town in the future would pause to consider this when negotiating with Walmart regarding a new store. Can you imagine the Ticonderoga town assessor versus Walmart's 400 person legal department?
By the way, lioneljoe, welcome to the group!

Sorry I've been away all day but we had a 4 HOUR budget hearing tonight. Strike, I don't know why someone would use the term "on board," but I did have a conversation with the Majority Leader regarding this project and raised many of the concerns we've talked about. I could be missing something, so please let me know before next meeting because that's when it will be voted on.
I thought the major concern was the intersection on 840, and told the majority leader that I wouldn't support anything unless I was 100% poisitive that there was NOT going to be an intersection. He said that there wasn't and it was a "dead issue." Again, I don't owe my vote to anyone but the taxpayers so please let me know where everything stands now. Thanks.

Strike, I just noticed your emails and am very troubled by what looks like some misrepresentations that were given to me by certain officials. I will review it in more detail and contact you. Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and info.

Mr. Tanoury, Can you give us any insight on how you are going to vote on October 15th? Do you still support this? Thanks

Mr. Tanoury, Can you give us any insight on how you are going to vote on October 15th? Do you still support this? Thanks I can tell you this... I will be meeting with a couple residents of New Hartford tomorrow and will be voting for whatever the PEOPLE of New Hartford want, not what the politicians want. The issue is very complex and I've been trying my hardest to read all of the information available. In the end, I believe we are elected to "represent the people", not the private interests. So, on Wednesday, I would encourage anyone with concerns about this proposal to attend the County Board meeting. The meeting starts at 2pm. Our caucuses start at 1pm (which is where most of the discussion takes place) and they are also open to the public. You would need to sign up to speak with the clerk before the meeting. Thanks.

Mr. Tanoury, Thanks for the response. I know that many residents at the New Hartford Board meeting had concerns about this project. To sum them up: What is the job guarantee that The Hartford agreed to? Is it enforceable? Is the PILOT agreement enforceable? Specifically, can the Hartford fight full property assessment when the agreement comes to an end? Road work: Many residents near the Hartford had major concerns about the traffic impact. Some of them send they were never informed of the proposed work even though it would be right next door to their homes. 840 intersection? Will it happen? What form will it take? Bridge? Traffic Light?
Thanks

I work in New Hartford and travel on Rt. 840 every day. The plan for an intersection for the Hartford is clearly a bad idea in my mind. Just when they had created a smooth flow of traffic, they're going to snarl it. Rt. 840 will become another Rt. 5 or Commercial Drive nightmare.

Well today is the vote. Has there been any public announcement inviting the public to speak at the Oneida County Legislature? Can they approve this on the condition that New Hartford puts it up to a public referendum?
