THe house we bought has a woodstove in it and we really want a pellet stove but cant afford the 2200.00 at this point, I have looked on craiglist for a used one but havent had any luck does anyone know of a place that has used pellet stoves or does anyone have a pellet that they are getting rid of or know of someone that has one to get rid of?? With heating oil so high and both of the boys being in SSI we could really use the pellet for extra heat thanks so much

Michelle, you'll probably have to hunker down with the wood stove this winter. People I've been talking to say that all stoves are in very short supply, and that used ones, if and when available, will be highly priced. Plus, getting pellets this late might be impossible. A friend down here in the Catskills told me his supplier had to go down to Pennsylvania for pellets ... this past June! Also, some have told me they have been disappointed with the amount of heat from pellets, compared to wood. Here are a couple of references you might want to view: www.customfireplacesandmore.com/hearth-articles/wood-pellet-heat.htmlths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/firepl/msg1208562632613.html

Dave We would love to use the wood stove but the guy that lived here before didnt exactly install the piping correctly and now we are being told that you can not buy triple wall pipe and the door on the woodstove is cracked, so our thought was to get a pellet because it is vented simpler than a wood stove , at any rate we need to fix the piping one way or another

Yes, that sounds dangerous. As for the pellet stove, my understanding is it can be easily vented with a 3inch pipe directly through the wall with no special insulation. "My understanding."

My husband did some research for a friend that was looking for a pellet stove are none to be found, as for pellets we ordered ours from Tractor Supply and have 4 ton coming on Thursday mind you we ordered late July early August cost just under a $1000. My brother inlaws are spending $5000. on their oil for this year! The local hardware store here in Ilion has pellets but are limiting customers to 2 bags per day I'm sure so that they can gouge the prices when people really need them!! No kudos for the new pellet company in Schuyler!

The Hearth Shop in Rome might be a place to check for a pellet stove if you still wanna go that route, or see about getting the wood stove fixed. Only drawback is, that it gonna be tough finding wood. Last I heard it was going for around $65 a cord, and probably more now. The dude that was gonna check my woods to see if there was firewood worthy stuff in there told me they were paying $10 a face cord to the landowner. As far as pellets, again, the Hearth Shop on Erie Blvd. in Rome has a lot as of last check. We got 3 tons but ordered them in July when they were $199/ton. No idea what they are now.
