Bernie Sanders Rips Democrats After Kamala Harris Loss: 'No Great Surprise' Story by Andrew Stanton • 20h • 2 min read Senator Bernie Sanders ripped the Democratic Party after Vice President Kamala Harris' loss to President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday. Trump appeared poised to sweep the battleground states, securing another term as president, as Harris underperformed with voters across the country following the at-times tense campaign. Democrats have already begun the autopsy on the election results as Harris supporters express a mix of outrage and despondence. Sanders, a Vermont independent who caucuses with Democrats who won reelection Tuesday night, issued a scathing statement Wednesday afternoon about the Democrats' performance. "It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them," Sanders wrote. "First, it was the white working class, and now it is Latino and Black workers as well." He chastised Democratic leadership for defending "the status quo" while Americans "are angry and want change." "Will the big money interests and well-paid consultants who control the Democratic Party learn any real lessons from this disastrous campaign? Will they understand the pain and political alienation that tens of millions of Americans are experiencing? Do they have any ideas as to how we can take on the increasingly powerful Oligarchy which has so much economic and political power? Probably not," Sanders wrote. Sanders raised concerns about the Democratic Party's response to several key issues, including health care, drug prices, the rise of artificial intelligence and the U.S. response to the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. "In the coming weeks and months those of us concerned about grassroots democracy and economic justice need to have some very serious political discussions," he wrote. Newsweek reached out to Harris' campaign for comment via email. Polls in the final stretch showed a tight race between Harris and Trump, with both campaigns always expecting that key battlegrounds would come down to the wire. By Wednesday evening, networks had called Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin for Trump. He also held leads in Arizona and Nevada, though those states remained uncalled by about 6 p.m. ET. Democrats are already divided about why Harris lost. Progressives are blaming Harris' tack to the center for her defeat. They have also argued that her support for Israel cost her votes in Michigan. Some have raised concerns about voter perceptions of Harris as being too liberal. Exit polls showed that the economy and concerns about democracy motivated voters. Harris had sought to dispel concerns about the economy, as the inflation rate has dropped since 2022. But voters still voiced overall dissatisfaction with the state of the financial affairs and the direction of the country. If Biden didn't let his ego get in the way he would have announced he wasn't running again back in January. There was no way Harris or anyone else could run a campaign of this magnitude in three months & expect to win.
The country at least as far we know it is finished. What galls me is the people who are going to enact Project 2025 own massive wealth & don't have a worry in the world except how to gain more, but want to turn this country over on it's head. They never get enough & they never will.

I wouldn't go as far as to say the country as we know it will end. You and I have lived through such things as the Kennedy assassination and Watergate. Biden gave a very gracious speech yesterday. I can't help wondering how things would have gone if he had decided not to run earlier.

I too was impressed with how gracious Biden's speech was yesterday. He promised a smooth transition. We will have to see how that goes. Hopefully we will see less of the political "mortal combat" attitude, and more focus will be put on the purpose for which we actually elect an official. We have watched the Democrats fight Trump for his entire term in office, and consequently we also were treated to the unproductive battle to stall any legislative efforts of the Biden administration during his time in office. I have no doubt that the stormy weather will continue, but hopefully it will be without attempts or persecute, prosecute, or impeach. Hopefully the focus will be on a more civilized and proper process of getting congressional business done and not on making the priority removing anyone from the office that the people have legitimately voted for and elected.
Yeah, I am probably dreaming and fantasizing. We may have gone too far down the road for any miraculous return to semi-civilized working across the aisles.

Musk has warned of hardships to come. Yep, hardships for the middle class & poor as people like Musk who gave Trump $100 million to get elected live high on the hog in their Ivory Towers & Beachfront mansions. What will they be asked to sacrifice for the better good? Santa Claus will slide down our chimneys before that happens.
Gov. Walz is giving his concession speech now. He's a good man but they tried to crucify him because of it.

From what I remember, several years ago Musk sold his California property and moved to a 2 bedroom home in Boca,Texas. It was a custom designed, factory built home delivered on 2 trucks. No beach.

Funny how the right wing along with Trump blasted EV's right from the beginning. But, now? Not so much as Trump is about to hire good old best buddy Elon who bought Trump with campaign donations & is about to get a position in the W.H. Trump is a tyrant & the two of them are in it for the money. Trump ran to stay out of prison. Nice job.

Musk is definitely a controversial figure. Many people can't stand him. It's hard to put together a room of people which includes Musk without him being the smartest guy in the room. I don't think Tesla will ever be more than a rich man's toy but it has certainly done more to promote EVs than anything produced by Ford or GM. (How many people dream about having a Chevy Volt in their garage?)
I was surprised today to learn that post election bitterness has infected my own family. Barb is trying to put together a birthday party for our son Michael. Katie (our youngest) said she would not come because of Michael's support for Trump. Michael said he was fine with that. Barb was quite hurt and I am disappointed with both of them. I suppose this means that some of our grandchildren won't be coming either.

A guy down the road from us just bought a Tesla truck. It's a close 2nd to the Pontiac Aztec as the ugliest vehicle ever made. The body style looks like it was designed by someone who just knocked back a quart of Jack Daniels. IMHO

I can't help wondering how things would have gone if he had decided not to run earlier. She could have had a year and still wouldnt have won. She is not Presidential material. She raised over 118 mill and is still claiming bankruptcy. Where did all that money go. (Surely not no clothes, hair and makeup) she looks like a shlump. What happened to dress the part for the job you want.

At least she gave one, which is more then can be said for Trump, who in 2020, didn't.

Giving Trump the keys to the W.H. is the biggest mistake voters have ever made in the history of this Country. And we're all going to pay the price. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.
Trump proved what he's capable of leading up to & on J6. If he lost he's be headed to prison by the end of the year. That is a fact. "No one is above the law". What a farce that is.

Latest Rumour I heard is this. Biden did not plan on ending his campaign. Who ever was running the show put Kamala out there first. Then they told Biden who was not able to do or say anything without saving face. He is still pissed. Kamala knew all about it, thats who you planned to vote for, a back stabber that cant be trusted. No wonder they didn't let her out to speak.

No wonder they didn't let her out to speak. Nonsense. Nobody "forced" Biden to do anything. He dropped out because his performance at the debate was a catastrophe & he knew he would probably lose. You Trump supporters should kiss the ground Biden walks on for dropping out leaving Harris only 3 months to run her campaign. They didn't "let her speak"? Gee, right wing media didn't seem to have any problem covering her campaign & blasting her every time she did speak. If she didn't "speak" why were her policies attacked endlessly? As far a being a backstabber. How many of Trump's own supporters in his party has he attacked publicly? Plenty & I don't have time to list them all. But, there's always Google if u care to check.
