I sleep quite well with my dog who will bark if she hears a fly fart. Always a handgun on the nightstand. Hopefully to hold someone captive until the police arrive, but also the genuine possibility exists that if threatened with bodily harm or death, I would not hesitate to shoot an intruder if I believed I was in danger of any sort of bodily harm. Sadly we live in a world where drug use and other things leave us more prone to home invasions and robbery than the world that folks our age grew up in. Not far up the road there is a house that once was occupied by a sweet little widow. When she died she left the house to a grandson who has turned it into a flop house for a trashy tribe of less than savory characters, meth heads and drunks. When I see red or blue lights go up the road it is often a domestic disturbance all or a drug overdose at that den of iniquity. Not long ago one of them was arrested for breaking into a car not far from here. Thankfully that is the only house anywhere near by that houses that sort of low life drunks and losers. YES, I sleep well with a dog on one side and a loaded 9mm on the nightstand on the other side.
Thankfully, the state of Tennessee subscribes to the Castle Doctrine laws. In short, the State of Tennessee does not require its populous to first retreat before exercising deadly force, so long as: (1) an individual has a reasonable belief that there is an imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury; (2) the danger creating the belief of imminent death or serious bodily injury is real, or honestly believed to be real, at the time; and (3) the belief of danger is founded upon reasonable grounds.
