Last week a Utica woman, Lorraine Asker, a local bartender, was brutally beaten and found lying at the bottom of the stone steps of her workplace, Stanley's Bar and Grill on Court Street. She had sustained bruising and a fractured skull, a good samaritin apparently found her and when she refused treatment or an ambulance, helped her to her car. The next morning she was found by that same person still in her car and transferred to Wynn Hospital where she was placed on life support. She died last wednesday morning. Her purse and cell phone were missing. No one has been charged with the crime yet. She was 55 years old.

I read about that. What a terrible thing to happen. Some people wonder if she fell down the cement stairs from the bar sustaining serious injury. Her purse and cell phone missing makes me thing she was either robbed after she fell down the stairs and possibly passed out or someone tried to rob her as she was leaving Bar for evening. If I found someone in that situation who refused treatment I think to be safe I would still call police. My she rest in peace and may the UPD solve this mystery fast.

Stanley's, Utica's premier Old Man Bar, where the alkies line up for breakfast, has been a crime spot for a while. Stanley's has been there for more than 50 years and everybody knows everybody and everything about everbody. Some old guy there with a week's worth of chin stubble and bad teeth knows who did it and he ain't talking. The story that came to me from a friend who lived next door to her was that she was badly beaten and robbed, but, assuming her car was locked, they didn't take her car keys. She indeed may have fell down the stairs. Dead bartenders tell no tales.

I wonder if she cashed up for the evening closing of bar and would br driving to the Bank to deposit the money. Makes me think someone was watching her to get the days sales in cash..

I'm no armchair detective, but it appears that she was alone and closed up at 10PM. If someone else was with her they would have heard and seen the assult going on. She was found alone at the bottom of the steps by a passing good samaritan not another employee.
