Shot fired at Bristol Area Med Center

There are several stories going around. Some say it happened while security was struggling to subdue a patient and the security officers gun was fired in a struggle and blew a hole in the floor. Some say it was an inmate being treated in the ER, and some say the incident took place on the fourth floor.

The details so far are pretty few and far between and the incident is still under investigation. Someone on Facebook said that they met 7 patrol cars and a SWAT vehicle on 11W going toward the hospital at an extremely high speed. I imagine that it also generated a similar response from the Sheriffs Dept. in Blountville coming from the opposite direction.

The curiosity is killing me. I hope at noon they update the story to include the circumstances involved.

Well the good part of this story is that if anyone is injured they are right there for treatment in the hospital. That bad part is not the hospital has to repair a hole in the floor. I heard it was the SWAT vehicle that backfired! Gee never any excitement around here except when I came home at 1PM we had an ambulance, two police cars and the fire department holding up my Bus in parking lot. They have been told to use designated parking spaces! Luckily a cop came out and saw us and ran to his vehicle and MOVED it.

The kind of excitement that happened in Bristol is the last thing we need around here, imho.

the story is finally out. It was a Sherriff's deputy's gun. He was readjusting the inmates shackles when they unstrapped him to transfer him from the ambulance gurney to the ER bed. He became combative and a struggle ensued. During that struggle the deputy's gun was fired while still holstered. Luckily the officer's toes weren't blown off or worse.

I hadn't notice before that the combative prisoner hit HIMSELF with the officer's baton, soon became unresponsive, and is hospitalized. Why does that sound suspicious to me? Seems to me that the officer may have given the prisoner a quick thump with the baton to INSURE that he was compliant. After all, ya can't put up much resistance if you are unconscious.

I hope there is body cam footage. Possible but not plausible.
