They haven't been able to leave the ship in the 8 weeks it has been marooned in the wreckage of the bridge. Something seems a bit unfair to those sailors. The owners of the ship and our immigration authorities are probably equally responsible for the crew being confined to the ship. They are probably afraid if they turn them loose on shore they would never see half of them again. I recall how boring it can get being confined to a ship. When we were at sea for an extended period of time with nothing to see but the sea it left one feeling pretty confined after a week or so. Seeing land on the horizon and the prospect of stepping off that ship onto land where a person could grab a beer, a meal, or just explore and shop was quite gratifying and morale boosting. For at least some of the Dali's crew 8 weeks is only the beginning. The ship when freed from the bridge will have to be towed to a shipyard and put in drydock for repairs. I imagine that once the ship is freed some sort of arrangements will be made to unload the cargo and load it on ships that will get it to it's final destination. One can only imagine the problems that are being caused by the fact that those waiting for delivery of that cargo have been severely impacted.

Dali is a charter out of India & that's where the crew is from. The company doesn't give a damn about that crew & they probably want them to stay put to unload it & get it back to port once it repaired which could take months. The ship is owned by Maersk a giant corporate conglomerate that charters it's vessels out of Third World hellholes where regulations are lax & crews are dispensable. It's the same deal with those fishing vessels in Southeast Asia, where crew members are barely above slave status & importers look the other way as long as the product is delivered. And that includes corporate America. If consumers knew how their fish in the local big box store is harvested, they'd be in an uproar.

There was a time when a good many American shipping company's vessels sailed under a Panamanian flag. As for fish from a big box store, I don't fret too much about it. I don't eat Tilapia, sword fish, flounder, or halibut. Other than that if it tastes good I eat it. If it doesn't I don't buy it again. If we worried about the origin of every grocery item we purchase and eat we would starve. It can only be avoided by eating only US grown or raised organic products and thus far I don't subscribe to that all organic mindset.

I had Tilapia once & didn't care for it at all. The others you mentioned are just too expensive imho.

"I don't eat Tilapia, sword fish, flounder, or halibut. " Neither do I . I only like Salmon, Cod, Scallops and canned Tuna. Oops forgot squid! I had some BBQ octopus once and it was very good. How I ate the octopus was funny. I was a Franciscan Brother at the time and I was working the 3 to 11PM shift on the 2nd Floor( skilled nursing ) of our nursing home infirmary. Max had a visitor ( his girlfriend) Max was quadriplegic( he was also an artist taught by Brother Matthew the community artist and Max painted with oil by using his mouth to hold various brushes and scrapers) and if I remember right he was about 30 at that time and a great guy) I knocked to enter room and she said come on in so i did. On entering she said hey Bro. William close your eyes and taste this great treat I brought Max. Well I did and she popped a small piece of octopus tentacle in the mouth. I chewed and said what it that it is so good. They both laughed and said BBQ octopus. I always had interesting evenings when I worked that shift.....and I love it ....and miss it dearly PS. Max eventually married his girlfriend. He opened a apartment complex in St. Louis, MO called Parquad. Apartments designed for quadriplegics and paraplegics. He is also responsible for the laws passed for peoples with disabilities. ANd here is Max Starkloff. I had Tilapia once & didn't care for it at all. The others you mentioned are just too expensive imho. Tilapia cooks up too mushy for my liking. I only like a firm white fleshed fish. My favorite locally caught fish was always Walleye. When I lived in Minnesota the walleyes often ran 4 or 5lbs and you could slice a nice thick filet the size of the haddock we bought in NY. Bullheads were always good too if you caught them from cold water in the spring. You are right about most fish being too expensive. My ex used to like swordfish steaks done on the grill. I couldn't swallow even a bite of the oily and fishy tasting stuff.

Swordfish I would never ever eat that again. When I was in High School and thinking of service to the Church as a religious a religious institution in Newburg, NY was having a vocation weekend so I wrote and asked to attend. One of the priests from the vocation department drove up to Utica, NY to pick me up for this weekend experience. On the way driving back to the Seminary the time was around 6PM and he said I am treating you to dinner. So we stopped at some restaurant and he ordered swordfish and said to try it it is very good( that was 1965 and Fridays was still fish day in Catholic Church). I said ok. I took a piece in my mouth and thought this sucks but didn't want to tell him that so somehow with the help of the Holy Spirit I ate it all and thank God it stayed down. I had a lot of fun at the vocations weekend and they somehow managed to get 30 guys. We all slept in the one of the dorms on the top floor of the seminary which was very old. The community was called the Society of Saint Joseph. I didn't join cause I was always interested in the Franciscans. But had a great time and learned a lot.....

I have only eaten octopus once and it was heavily marinated and served in a cold salad. I wasn't impressed. It tasted like a piece of rubber marinated in the marinade. Not terribly off-putting, but rather flavorless. We eat at a Chinese buffet occasionally and on occasion the serve octopus. I simply pass it by. It doesn't appeal to me.

RFK Jr claims he got a brain worm from eating too much of it. Maybe that's why he's nuts. I like canned tuna, Albacore only but don't eat a lot of it because some contains Mercury. Or so I've heard.

I love white albacore tuna. I buy it 5 cans at a time at Aldi's. I put it in tossed salad, macaroni salad, tuna noodle casserole, and make sandwiches with it. I sometimes eat it right from the can for lunch on a few saltine crackers.

I love canned tuna also. But I had a craving for Tuna in red sauce with ziti so I bought the glass can of tuna in olive oil that Walmart sells for well over $6.00. I do have to say it is delicious. I sometimes eat it right from the can for lunch on a few saltine crackers. I made tuna noodle casserole two weeks ago for a Friday night special since the last time I made that was many years ago which I can't understand why... Anyway the recipe make a lot I think 4 servings. I split that between Friday and Saturday along with a nice salad using spinach and arugula. Now I gained 5 pounds!
