wibx950.com/ixp/39/p/red-lobster-closing-new-york/We eat at the local Red Lobster fairly often and we have seen prices rise and the size of portions shrink. The all you can eat shrimp promotion has to be a contributing factor in the chain losing money. The all you can eat shrimp special use to be available any day of the week. Now it is just one day a week. It was abused and not adequately controlled by management. We go there with a mother/daughter pair that we often go out to eat with. They both order the all you can eat shrimp special. They are allowed to order another round of 3 different styles of shrimp as soon as one is delivered to the table. They add that round to the present portion on their plate and put the empty dishes on the end of the table for the server to see. When he comes to grab the dirty dishes they order again and again. When all is said and done, they have eaten their fill and ask for a box. They end up taking home about two portions apiece in a take-out box. Personally I find that two rounds of shrimp is more than enough for me. We used to order lobster entree's fairly often. The size of the tails has gotten smaller and smaller over time. The last time we had a lobster combo plate with shrimp the tails were not much bigger than a crawfish tail. We have always enjoyed the quality of the food, but the portion sizes and the prices are tempting us to go elsewhere for seafood. It is sad to see many of favorite chain restaurants having to close some of their marginally profitable stores. Price increases by their suppliers coupled with higher payroll costs lead to price increases to the customer resulting in a situation where customers are not able to afford to eat out as often. Do they still do the all you can eat shrimp in CNY?

Last time I was in a Red Lobster was 1972 and that was the last time for me. I remember the lobster was the size of crawfish which I did not like so never went back again. I think the scrimp were also tiny.
If you want great seafood just go to Walmart or Hannaford fresh or frozen ya can't go wrong. I buy fresh salmon for Wednesday and Friday supper that get me the recommended two portions per week. The price is coming down now not the way when we were in the midst of COVID which forced me to eat a can of salmon twice a week. If one would rather be in a restaurant just get a photo of a local eatery play some light music and make believe. It is also a lot cheaper and ya don't need to wear shoes or pants.

With the cost of groceries, especially meats, it is often that eating out or getting takeout is pretty comparable to buying the meat and cooking at home and we don't have to cook. It sometimes just feels like the fuss and muss of cooking and eating at home just isn't worth it.
Steak is one thing that we go out for, although with summer upon us I will have to stock up on a few for the grill. I might just have to bite the bullet and spend $100 or so when I see a decent sale on ribeye or strip steaks, vacuum package them and freeze them. It is just a matter of spending the $100 all at once or paying more over an extended period for the same amount of meat.
We used to grill steaks quite often, but not so much any more. We also love to grill a large assortment of proteins such as chicken, pork loins and chops hand patted hamburgers, hot dogs, Italian and Polish sausage, as well as fish and shrimp recipes. I love several different recipes for grilled salmon, marinated or brushed with different things and I live in front of the grill all summer. Grilled entrees, cool fresh salads, and an ice cold beverage of choice is what summer cooking should be all about.
You mentioned your love for salmon. We just paid about $21 and change for 2lb filet of skinless, boneless. wild caught Atlantic Salmon. Price comparable to steak prices, but an occasionally delicious change and treat. Canned salmon? Kathy makes great salmon patties but I am not crazy about canned salmon any other way.
Kathy recently came up with a variation in her recipe for salmon patties. She was out of bread crumbs so she crunched up some dry Stove Top stuffing mix and used it instead. It was actually quite tasty.

I have a craving for shrimp now so I think for Wednesday I will think up with some guidance salmon with couscous. I like shrimp and grits but have couscous with parmesan and garlic instead.
Chowder House is just down the street from me and is open for lunch and dinner on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I'll go in the summer a few times but I think he is expensive unless eateries are all just high in price. Beer battered Haddock and Shrimp with coleslaw and french fries is $18.00. The 12 oz Ribeye plated with mashed potatoes and cob on the corn ( which I do not like) is $32.00

Do they know that they're eating shrimp raised in farms in Southeast Asia nations like Viet Nam & fed the most god awful crap & I mean that literally, that one can imagine? i'll bet the aftertaste is wicked. Lol. We use to have shrimp around the holidays purchased from big box stores but no more. If we don't mind eating crap, there's a McD's not far from here. We haven't gone to R.L. in years but if we do we won't order the shrimp.

It is not only the shrimp that are farmed in Vietnam. A lot of the Tilapia you eat comes from China and is also contaminated with all sorts of crap. A lot of shrimp comes from South America. Ecuador exports a lot of shrimp to the US. We love shrimp and eat quite a bit of it in shrimp alfredo, shrimp stir fries, and I love shrimp in macaroni salad. The only time I concern myself about the source of shrimp is when I want to have shrimp cocktail. Then I buy the jumbo sweet and firm shrimp from our local seafood store. The shrimp they sell all comes from Brownsville Texas and is wild caught. Any of the smaller shrimp for cooking is simply purchased at Kroger's Aldi's or Sam's Club, in bags or rings. We have been eating that shrimp for many years and enjoying it. If it comes from Vietnam so be it. Anyone that has ever eaten Swai from a Vietnamese river is certainly not afraid to eat farmed shrimp. LOL I eat a lot of farmed catfish, farmed in the Southern US. That is not farmed in exactly pristine clear water either. Not only do we have to worry about how it is farmed, we should be more worried about how it is handled between the water and your table and how fresh or old it is. We have only two seafood markets in the area. One in Kingsport that I don't like and one here in Bristol that has good merchandise but is pretty pricey so I only buy there occasionally. Food City carries fresh Mahi Mahi caught off of our own coast, either off the coast of Florida or in the Gulf area off the Texas coast. It is a firm, white fleshed, mild tasting fish and isn't too terribly expensive. We eat a lot of it, along with catfish filets, occasionally a salmon filet, or cod.

We actually went to dinner with Bonnie and her mom again tonight. We went to Texas Roadhouse. No shrimp. lol. I had an email this morning that included a bar code for a free blooming onion. Bonnie had a coupon for a free appetizer for her birthday. She got deep fried pickle slices. By the time we polished off the appetizers and ate a few of the fresh hot rolls with the honey cinnamon butter we ended up bringing half our entrees home in a box. I had a 12 ounce strip steak and Kathy had a 12 ounce prime rib. We both had a baked sweet potato and a side salad. I was stuffed when we got out of there and I still have half of my steak to warm up and have with a couple of eggs and some toast in the morning.

I loved shrimp. Unfortunately, shrimp no longer likes me. I can't eat even one without undesirable consequences. Unlimited shrimp does not draw me to a restaurant.

About a year ago I took my next door neighbor to Red Lobster in New Hartford for her birthday. I ordered Shrimp Alfredo where the shrimp should be quick-seared then cooked in a cheese sauce. What I got was a few tiny shrimp that had been boiled, not seared, then thrown into the sauce. Needless to say it was a big disappointment. Whatever she got (I can't remember) she didn't complain about other than it didn't taste like she expected, and the bill came to over $60.00 which I thought was outrageous. The best part of the meal for me was the biscuits (and the glass of white wine). It won't bother me one bit if Red Lobster closes the New Hartford store. It doesn't make a difference anyway because even if it stays open I'll never go back.

We buy the cheddar bay biscuit mix at Kroger's. They are the best part of any visit to RL. I was just reading this morning that they are doing away with the all you can eat shrimp deal completely. I can't get to excited one way or the other about the news that they are closing some of their restaurants. There is no shortage of chain restaurants to choose from.
