Dreading my 1 o'clock appointment at the VA. They want to further investigate the peripheral neuropathy in my feet so they are going to do an EMG to see what nerves are damaged and the source, whether it be my diabetes or as a result of arthritis setting in in my spine resulting from two back surgeries after having fractured 4 vertebrae in my back many years ago. I am not looking forward to having acupuncture like needles stuck in my legs or back and electrical shocks applied. I had it done several years ago and it was quite an unpleasant experience. One of the reasons for the testing is that podiatry is considering ordering me diabetic shoes. They aren't the clunky black boondockers like they used to be. They send you to Victory Orthotics and they have stylish dressy shoes as well as fashionable sneakers. If they are approved a patient gets 2 pairs every 6 months. That seems a bit excessive and I probably wouldn't be replacing them that often, but I will be glad to have shoes that help the neuropathy and foot pain.

My Mom had those shoes and they are nice looking. She had a set of very nice sneakers and a more dressy shoe. She said they brought much needed comfort. Good luck.....

My Mom had those shoes and they are nice looking. She had a set of very nice sneakers and a more dressy shoe. She said they brought much needed comfort. Good luck..... They evaluated my neuropathy, ordered a pair of socks to wear to bed at night that have a small tens unit embedded in it that supposedly calms the sharp jabbing pains that shoot through my foot at night. They are also putting in an order for diabetic shoes. They send the order to Victory Orthotics and Victory calls the patient to make and appointment to have the patient's feet measured and the shoes ordered. The podiatrist says that they have a catalog with over 200 choices of styles to choose from. When the shoes come in they have the patient come back and they insure proper fit and provide the proper inserts for comfort. I can get new inserts twice a year and new shoes once a year.

They didn't order the EMG. The podiatrist is referring me to a neurologist to determine whether they need to do that test. The podiatrist referred me to the nail clinic. They have so many diabetics that they only do it every 4 months and I am not scheduled for the first appointment until the first week in August but I will pay the 25 dollar copay and have my civilian podiatrist do it once more in the meantime.

I am pretty sure you will love the shoes my Mom always said how comfortable they were. Good luck with the socks and the tens unit. I bought one of those tens units for muscle pain and it is funny how it works.
