Hip hip hooray for National Grid! They're here to help! Sure! That's why they're installing "smart meters" soon so that they can track our usage by the hour then screw us during peak energy usage times & slap us with a surcharge for running our A.C. when it's 90* out.

Our power company has a program that gives us a discount for allowing them to put a timer on our hot water heater that shuts the power off to it for a short period of time in peak power usage hours. We have a 50 gallon tank so we have never even noticed any difference. It is controlled by a signal that is transmitted out of Nashville.

Our tank is 40 gals. & it's close to 10 years old. I'm surprised it has lasted that long. Now that I've jinxed it I should probaly start looking at replacement cost for a new one.

As far as I know, the only off peak program National Grid is offering now if for electric vehicle charging.
