I am heading into the Olbiston Zone. I have filled out the tome like application, had 2 phone interviews, and now on April 11th am schedued for a face to face with the "Director of Compliance". This all sounds quite Orwellian. I have to have the following documents: Birth Cert, social security card, proof of any name change, EBT statement, bank statements, social security benefit statement, drivers liscence, proof of residency or current address, proof of no. of hairs under left armpit. If my docs are in order and I am approved next my name goes to a lottery. The lottery is May 18th at the American Legion. They have 153 apts to fill and want to fill them all at once by this lottery, so....do I get in automatically if they have under 153 names? Move in date is July 1st? Do they plan to move all of us in at once? I have no idea how that can be done. "Well", said Napolean as he stepped off the boat to Elba , "I have a plan..." This seems strange as there is no information regarding rentals on the CRM website, no ads and no signage in front of the building, strange because the rental agent told me that the apps close on May 1st and you can't apply after that. Does anyone else find this unusual?

As Red Buttons used to say, "Strange things are happening." If it were me I'd steer clear of the Olbiston for a while.

I think it a crock of you know what for putting potential renters thru that process then have to wait for a "lottery" result to see if they get an apartment or not. Anyone who "qualifies" should be given an apartment on a first come first served basis & dispence with this lottery nonsense. Who's overseeing this lottery to ensure it's fair so that someone in the Friends & Family Plan doesn't get first dibs?
Only in Utica.

As a potential tenant I have no way of knowing if the others actually applied or not, I assume they would have had to. However, never having gone through anything like this I assume this is the correct process, though I could be wrong. I never applied for nor have I ever lived in HUD Housing. It just seems very ponderous and even after all of that, there is no guarantee. Odd that there is no advertisment, nothing on the news, nothing on the CRM website, no signage and that the app date closes May 1st. This could just be for the first traunch of residents though. The only reason I am on the potential list is that I have been pushing for this since last year and I had a friend who is a real estate agent make the final call for me to CRM. Someone has the information, some potentials, and it's not the general public as far as I can see.

They like any other HUD housing have requirements and needed documentation for gaining an apartment. Artzy you will go through that each year as you recertify for your apartment once you get one.

The stupid human pet tricks will be a sight to behold. And it will rain cats & dogs.

They must have a plan to stagger the move in dates and times. I will find out Thurs when I have my face to face interview.

Do you have to have your own mover to move in on that date. Sounds like moving in day for College freshman which I went through but hell that was fun since I was only 20.
Why do people have to move in on just one day? I do not understand that?

WTH! If they moved everyone in on the same day they would probably have to shut down Genesee St and Clinton Place just to make room for all the moving trucks and the poor elevator would catch hell. Then of course there would be people that would be stressed out and there would be a physical altercations few over who would use the elevator first.
I wonder how it was handled when the other apartment buildings such as Kennedy Plaza or the places on Bleecker St. were new and opening for the first time.

I have no idea how they plan to do this, the obvious thing would be to stagger the move ins over time. I will find out Thurs when I have my interview. BHU is right: once the applications are vetted and the tenant is approved it should be first come, first serve. Having a lottery unless you have hundreds and hundreds of people seems absurd and I will wager that there will be a few unhappy people who will make a stink to high heaven should there names not be picked. This is a long and involved process with no guarantee. If you are not in the first traunch then your name goes on a waiting list. Good luck with that. Also, re: staggering the move in dates: almost everyone has a lease of some sort, rather hard to jump out of in mid month. You give your notice and you move generally on the first of any month.

I hope they have staggered move ins because before you get the keys to move in you will be signing additional paperwork. When I moved in here I arrived at 10AM went to office to pickup keys and found out additional paper work need signing. That was 18 seperate sheets of pepper I signed with no time to read each one!!!!!!!! My sister was not happy nor the movers but that is how government works with no regard for humans feelings or time.

If I was approved for a new apartment & was hiring a moving company I'd make a reservation with a company on the day I was notified. There are not THAT many moving companies around here. I bet they don't "stagger" anything with the July 4 holiday right around the corner. Nobody will want to be around to monitor the chaos all week long or on a holiday. Like when an elevator craps out.

"The best laid plans..." Wynn Hospital is another example of poor planning. They opened the hospital and moved all the patients in pretty much at once, then oops! We forgot to finish the parking garage. Now I hear that it won't be ready until summer. Fortunately, the Olbiston has plenty of time to realize the problem and I suspect they'll change the move-in schedule.
