They were able to place him in situations that relate to the average voter (cutting lawn and son's hair) and find a way to tie it into a relevant issue (cutting taxes). It passed the "truth test" and wasn't overbearing. I haven't found it on YouTube so you'll have to watch the WKTV clip to see it.
