My brother in-law passed away peacefully tonight about 9pm. With his body ravaged by cancer of the brain, lungs, lymph nodes, and liver he somehow was spared any serious pain. It would be a year since his diagnosis come April.
My sister said that his breathing just slowed and there was long pauses between breaths and finally he just stopped breathing. She says he didn't struggle to breathe and just peacefully passed on.
As sad as it is to lose him, it is actually a blessing. He is no longer struggling and my sister can begin the grieving process and will be able to sleep all night again. She has been sleeping in a recliner next to his hospital bed in their living room, holding his hand all night and only sleeping around 3 hours a night for over a week and it has taken a toll on her physically. She looks like hell and has lost a significant amount of weight.
