I bought a prepared 1lb meatloaf at Hannaford the other day. All I had to do was place it in my toaster oven and bake it. I did add some BBQ sauce . I bought it because of the price. Was marked down to 4.99 plus a dollar off coupon on the package all because it was one day over the use by date 3.99 not bad. Also got a discount of Italian sausage and meatball mix once again because of use by date. Once in a while I get lucky. Hope I can score a small leg of lamb for Easter!!!!!!!!

Congrats on finding the bargains. I too will occasionally buy meat that is one day over it's "best by" date, take it home and put it in the freezer immediately. You can tell by looking at the color and such if the meat is worthy of purchase.
Fish and poultry? Nope! I want those to be as fresh as a daisy and well within date.

Well a few months ago I was checking the packages of the cooked chicken breast either grilled or baked manufactured by Perdue and low and behold on the shelf were about 30 packages BUY the use by date was over with about 5 weeks ago. I notified and worker who was loading shelves with fresh meat. I love to use this when making Caesar Salad. I always add a cut up hard boiled egg and some tofu to that type of salad.

Probably at Walmart. No telling how long it sat in a freezer somewhere before it made it to the store. That is the trouble with their meats and poultry coming already packaged and in most cases, frozen, from a distribution center.

I like buying chuck roasts, having them cut the roast and and having them grind it in-store for hamburger. No water added and fresh.

Our meat cutters at Food City will do it. I often have them cut me a couple of 2 inch thick pork chops and butterfly them so Kathy can stuff them. Here in the South fried bologna sandwiches are popular fare. I buy it in a chub and they will slice it thick for frying and wrap it in 1lb packages for me. They also cut hams into ham steaks. I buy a large ham and have them cut three or four ham steaks off it and leave a 6 or 7lb portion for baking.

Oh yes that happened at my favorite store can you imagine. That is why I alway check for expiration dates on anything I buy. If I want a certain product I will check the date and if it is off I place it on the floor and continue until I find a proper date for use. I've emptied entire shelves doing that and I am certain it helps the employees who stock the stuff.

If they can fry fish they can certainly grind chuck roast for stew meat or hamburger. I tried Bison as a hamburger and I like it a lot.
