www.cnbc.com/2021/12/02/dollar-general-to-open-1000-popshelf-stores-aimed-at-wealthier-shoppers.htmlI will be checking out the new store some day soon just out of pure curiosity. The photos look interesting and I look forward to checking it out. In this area you can't go more than two or three miles in any direction without passing a Dollar General store. I remember when they opened the first location in the Utica area in the old Nichol's plaza in Marcy. They actually had some great bargain prices on things like canned goods and household items. Now, in this area, their prices are higher in many cases than the supermarket and it seems that they are just capitalizing on the convenience factor. I recently went there for a small size tub of Cool Whip. It costs a buck or buck and a quarter in all the local supermarkets. It was over two bucks at DG. I don't shop there often but I DO like having a DG just up the road when the occasion arises when Kathy needs something in a hurry. I have been stopping more often at Dollar General since Dollar Tree became the Buck and a Quarter store. The packaging and amount of product in it has become smaller and many things are no longer a bargain at Dollar Tree.

I shop at DG once in a while for the conveinance, but not too often due to their prices & some of their stores are real dumps especially the location on Oriskany Blvd.

We have a Dollar General here in Utica on upper Genesee Street. Don't go in there if you value your sanity and perhaps your life.

They usually only have two people working in the DG stores around here. When you are finished shopping you have to cruise the store to find and employee to check you out unless you want to use the self check-outs. The two people that are working are usually tied up[ stocking shelves. The other thing that annoys me is that the aisles are always stuffed with crap that needs putting away or on the shelves.

That exactly describes DG's up here, except they never have more then one cashier on duty.

There's a DG in the New Hartford Shopping Center that used to drive me crazy. Every time I went in there they had moved stuff around and nothing was where it used to be. And with only 2 people working there at the same time they were constantly running back and forth from stocking the shelves to the front cash registers. Very annoying.
