wibx950.com/governor-hochul-massive-snow-storm-to-slam-new-york-on-wednesday/A rather inopportune time for a blizzard on such a busy travel day. Harkens back to the Christmas day storm we experienced when we first moved down here. We were home for Christmas with family and the area got hit with something like 3 feet in on Christmas day. I can't remember what year it was, but it was the year that we decided to relegate our trips to NY from Christmas until mid summer.

I've been checking forecasts & I've seen nothing about a major winter storm.

Pretty sure it was 2003. We moved here in 2002 and it wasn't long after that. I probably have told the story before. We were staying at the Best Western in N. Utica and went to her cousin's for Christmas dinner. They snowblowed the driveway for us to get in, and again for us to get out of their driveway in NY Mills. When we got back to the hotel there was an 8 foot snowbank across the driveway with a minivan teetering on the top of it. The idiot had tried to blast through the bank and ended up with his front bumper 7 or 8 feet off the ground. There were cars that had gone into the Hess station for gas and were trapped when the 3 state plows went by and laid up that 8 foot bank with a shelf where they had winged it back on top. They were trapped in the Hess Station until a plowing contractor could get there with a loader and break them out. We went to her nephew's house on Mohawk St, just below the parkway. Mohawk St was plowed but her nephew and I had to bust the bank open on the side street beside his house. ( he lived on a corner lot) We shoveled a way to his driveway in the rear of his house so we could get the car off the street. Right then we decided to stay down South of the Mason/Dixon Line. We moved here to get away from snow and then like dumbasses we went back in the peak of the winter weather. DUh!

I saw some weather forecasts for snow but now it looks like rain. I just finished covering my roses for the winter and brought in some blossoms that were just ready to open for Barb to add to her display of fall flowers on the kitchen table. Hard to believe we have fresh roses for Thanksgiving.
