That house on Dominica Court is next door to the house on the corner of Dominica Court and Herkimer Road that we left when we moved here. The price is crazy. The garage was a mess and they had a St Bernard living in it, and the house itself had asphalt tile from the sixties all the way through. It DOES have an in-ground pool, but it certainly isn't anything special for that price unless they had done some serious renovation.
Real estate here is different. In our neighborhood there are houses ranging from 100K to a mansion 4 doors down that belongs to a building contractor. It just went up for sale for 3 1/2 million. The house and 6 acres on the hill behind us and the house next door are are worth 300K to 450k, the house two doors up is a 3br brick ranch that sold not long ago for $150K on a 1/4 acre lot. Our house is a 100yr old farm house, totally remodeled with a 2 stall detached garage and the old store that serves as storage, on 3/4 acre. The houses are well kept but within 3/4 of a mile on our road you will find a mix that goes from the 3 1/2 million mansion to a couple of well maintained newer mobile homes and double wides up the road 1/2 mile or so. The difference here is that once you get out of the city there is very little zoning or restrictions. Thankfully everyone on our road maintain whatever property and home they have.

The one on S. James St in Rome that sold for $195k really surprised me. $195K for a raised ranch? Thanks, but no thanks.

My sister had a beautiful house on Plymouth Place in Utica she sold it after 33 years of ownership and several remodels for $155,000 and bought a real nice house up on Albany Hill on Pond Lane.

I guess the bottom line in our case is that we don't really care what the sale price of our home is or would be. It is a small 2 br and it is paid for. We plan on living our lives out here in this house. The person that is to inherit it can worry about real estate prices if they decide to sell it.
