Hopefully Meats on Main will offer the same high quality meats that Melrose Market did. The area needs a decent meat market. The market on Main St in Mohawk was always known for it's fresh high quality meat. When they closed it left Melrose as the lone premier source for fresh cut high quality meats in that portion of the valley.
When we are in the area we always spend time at Kathy's Aunt's camp on Canadarago Lake. We have stopped at both Melrose and the Mohawk Market in the past for meat to cook on the grill at the camp. Always high quality and both stores would custom cut steaks to your specs. It looks like Meats on Main will be a deli also and I predict that they will become a popular place to go for a sub. Being a carnivore at heart it is my opinion every town should have a source for high quality meat, and every town should have a good deli.
Every town should also have a great neighborhood bakery. When Friendly Bake Shop in Frankfort closed it left a sad void too. The valley was left with the nearest family run bakery in either Utica or the White Rose Bakery in Little Falls.

Thank goodness they younger generation has re-opened the bakery. Great stuff. When we lived on Herkimer Road I would occasionally drive there for dozen fresh cinnamon sugar donuts when I left work at the OD to take home for breakfast.
