Some days the beauty of nature is almost overwhelming. I stepped outside this morning and was met by a peaceful quiet, brightly shining sun, azure blue skies marked only by the contrails of passing aircraft. I stood at the fence waiting for the dog to do her business and was struck by the beauty. It was like a Normal Rockwell painting when I looked off in the distance at a beautiful log cabin with a red metal roof nestled in a meadow snuggled up to the foot of the mountain, a horse grazing peacefully in an adjacent meadow and the sun shining brightly on the cabin and the yellows, browns and oranges of the trees on the mountain side. The smell of cooking bacon cooking was wafting from the kitchen vent and my coffee was hot and strong. What a way to start the day. When I think of what is going on in other parts of the world I feel truly blessed and to be an American.

The older I get the more I appreciate the 4 seasons up here. I was out & about today running errands & although the trees are shedding their leaves big time there's still some amazing colors to be seen. I used to dread winter but no more. Now I just go with whatever Mother Nature throws at us, including cold & snow. When I think of the people I've known who have passed on just in the past 5 years or so I'm thankfull to still be around to experience the beauty around us.
I love Fall weather & I wish it lasted a bit longer.

I hate this time of year. I get depressed over less light that cold and everything around me dying! Can't wait for spring. I buy flowers during this time of year to starve off the depression and it works.

I wouldn't be disappointed if they did a way with hot summers and cold winters and we had spring weather that slowly turns to fall weather.

One thing I miss living in my new apartment is the sound of the trains West bound to Chicago. I used to set my clock by them. Now I have switched over to crows. I love the crying, cawing, cackling of a murder of crows settling in and then leaving in the early morning.

One thing I miss living in my new apartment is the sound of the trains West bound to Chicago. I used to set my clock by them. Now I have switched over to crows. I love the crying, cawing, cackling of a murder of crows settling in and then leaving in the early morning. When my grandparents lived on Main St. in Whitesboro I loved the sound of the trains going by during the night. When I was very young the steam engines were still in use. The coal soot used to be on everything within a block of the tracks but it was worth it just to see and hear the trains go roaring by, belching steam and smoke. There was something lost when they went to diesel locomotives and air horns instead of steam whistles. Crows must be in migration mode. We seldom see many crows here in summer, other than the occasional crow snacking on a road kill, but the last few weeks we are inundated with an unusually large number of crows. I too like the sound of the cawing of crows.

That's odd because I don't think crows migrate.

I don't know if they migrate or not but there is an unusual number of them hanging around here lately and we seldom saw any until this fall. I like the sound of them cawing, but from a distance. Several years ago we had a robin nesting on top of a porch light on the garage. Mama bird was off finding food for her babies and a crow swooped down, knocked the nest off on the ground and proceeded to eat the little robins. We have several wildfires burning around us, to the west, the north and to the east. Depending on wind direction there has been a smoky haze in the air, sometimes thick enough to irritate a person's airway. The crows may have moved to avoid the smoke and fire. Our friend that lives in Mendota Va, had 10 deer show up in her yard the other day. She usually only has a couple that she puts out corn for. She lives near the largest of the fires and the smoke is so thick she has to keep her windows closed and AC turned off. I just did a bit of a search and found that SOME crows DO migrate but not all. onlyzoology.com/do-crows-migrate-why-do-crows-migrate/

One of my favorite shots I took. It was on the grounds of my moms nursing home.

Crows don't seem to be nesting in my neighborhood anymore. I guess they moved back to Utica.
