Woke up to the mid 20s, and it is not going to be much above freezing until noon or after according to the local tv station. The high is only going to be in the low forties, dropping to the 20s again tonight. Thank goodness it will warm again tomorrow and will be in the 60s again before the weekend.

Chilly up here last night, too, Clipper. In the 30s, but it didn't stop the kids from Trick-or-Treating. Is this Global Warming?

Cold and rainy last night which means we have excess Haloween candy tempting me. However, I still have roses blooming on November 1st.

Cold and rainy last night which means we have excess Haloween candy tempting me. However, I still have roses blooming on November 1st. We still had a few buds on some of the roses but the nursery said it was ok to go ahead and cut them back. Today I have to run and get some RV antifreeze for the camper and winterize the pipes. I just drain the hot water tank and blow out the water lines with compressed air. The only place I use antifreeze is in the traps and a gallon the black water (sewer) holding tank and the gray water tank. I was hoping to hold off on winterizing until Kathy's nephew leaves on the 25th. I have normally not had to winterize until thanksgiving or after. I tuned on the furnace and set the thermostat at 60 last night and opened the cabinet doors under the sinks. With the cost of propane I don't want to keep that furnace on. I want to top off the on-board tank and have a full tank of propane when the company arrives for a week. Any other year they would have been here earlier to be here for the fall race at the speedway, but this year they are coming for thanksgiving and Jimmy is going to replace our kitchen flooring and help me replace the wood around the garage doors. For anyone that does a lot of work around roses the Kevlar sleeves I bought on amazon worked great. My hands and arms were all over in the bushes with pruning shears and not a scratch with the sleeves and leather work gloves on. www.amazon.com/Protection-Sleeves-Resistant-Women-Thumb/dp/B095M7N886/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?adgrpid=1337006703625158&hvadid=83562990014082&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=64856&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvtargid=kwd-83563265377839%3Aloc-190&hydadcr=23345_10574849&keywords=kevlar+sleeves+with+thumb+hole&qid=1698853651&sr=8-3-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1

I cut our roses back yesterday & still had buds on some. Not sure if I'm going to cover them for winter or not.

Last night it went down to the twenties again and was only 24 when I got up. Tonight it will be more of the same. 17 degrees below the normal temperature for the first week of November.
We have run the furnace in the motorhome to keep the pipes thawed until I could get out there and winterize it today.
I had forgotten to disconnect the garden hoses and they froze hard as a brick. Luckily it didn't freeze hard enough to crack the frost proof faucets. We had that happen the first year we were here and the one that is hooked into the water line to the kitchen sink cracked and was flooding the kitchen floor. Thank goodness Kathy heard the water running and woke me up at 3 in the morning to put on a winter coat, take the cover off the outside entrance to the crawl space and shut off the water until I could replace the faucet the next morning. No sense in having a frost proof faucet if you don't disconnect the hose so the faucet can drain.
