Let it rip! P&G's Charmin introduces rolls with wavy tear lines
Alexander Coolidge Cincinnati Enquirer Procter & Gamble's Charmin toilet paper brand has reinvented the bath tissue square. Responding to what the company says is consumers' No. 1 complaint, Charmin is replacing the traditional perforated tear line on its Ultra Soft rolls with a wavy, scalloped line it says will tear cleaner. Cincinnati-based P&G said the switch will mean consumers can avoid a messy tear or using more tissue than they wanted. “Consumers’ #1 complaint to our call centers over the years has been the uneven tears,” said Gregg Weaver, a senior scientist with Procter & Gamble, in a statement. “The uneven tear is a result of straight perforations that don’t match the direction that consumers pull... The new Charmin wavy perforation ensures that you’re able to tear smoothly no matter where and how you tear.” P&G said the company has been testing the new rolls in a few markets, but will now offer them nationwide this month. “This is something the toilet paper category hasn’t seen, and we’ve spent more than five years perfecting the technology and design behind it,” said Charmin vice president Rob Reinerman, in a statement. How inconvenient it must be to get a crooked tear while trying to wipe your butt. What the heck. I don't know if I could handle the stress of a crooked torn piece of butt wipe. The anxiety and stress must be horrific. If it becomes too traumatic a person could purchase a bidet' and pressure wash their anus instead of wiping. Must be that Mr. Whipple has heard complaints from consumers who have had to squeeze their Charmin tightly to get a grip to accomplish a straight tear.
