One more to ad to the list: South Carolina Democratic chairwoman Carol Fowler sharply attacked Sarah Palin today, saying John McCain had chosen a running mate "whose primary qualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion.” Palin is an opponent of abortion rights and gave birth to her fifth child, Trig, earlier this year after finding out during her pregnancy that the baby had Down syndrome. Fowler told my colleague Alex Burns in an interview that the selection of an opponent of abortion rights would not boost McCain among many women. “Among Democratic women and even among independent women, I don’t think it helped him,” she said. Told of McCain's boost in the new ABC/Washington Post among white women following the Palin pick, Fowler said: "Just anecdotally, I believe that those white women are Republican women anyway." UPDATE -- Carol Fowler releases a statement of apology: "I personally admire and respect the difficult choices that women make everyday, and I apologize to anyone who finds my comment offensive. I clumsily was making a point about people in South Carolina who may vote based on a single issue. Whether it’s the environment, the economy, the war or a woman’s right to choose, there are people who will cast their vote based on a single issue. That was the only point I was attempting to make." www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/0908/SC_Dem_chair_Palin_primary_qualification_is_she_hasnt_had_an_abortion_.html?showall

... the right-wingnuts (Rush, O'Reilly, etc.) ... Right you are. And IMHO, they don't help the conservative cause at all.

Thanks, Dan. I don't listen to NPR. I just found it interesting that in less than 24 hours afters Palin gave her speech, the right-wingnuts (Rush, O'Reilly, etc.) were complaining that she was being slammed. It was almost like they were trying to create a fight when there was none to be had. That's because the right is finally fighting back with lessons learn from the left wingnuts, formerly the democratic party! Conservative talk radio was a response from 40 years of constant name calling, badgering, downplaying and making fun of anyone that had an opinion to the right of Hubert Humphrey while being snuffed by the democrat's Fairness Doctrine! AND DON"T CALL THAT BLOW HEART O'RIELLY a CONSERVATIVE!! He is far from one. BOR is the typical finger in the air wind direction opinionater! When Rush came about, it was my turn to laugh at them pompous idiots! And you will never hear any politician on the right spew some of the most disgustingly ignorant unpatriotic diatribes said under the protection of the congressional and senate floors in the past 8 years!

I really miss John Batchelor, who had a talk show on ABC Radio and on XM Satellite. His ratings were evidently low, because there aren't that many thinking listeners around in the evening. I suppose you could say he leaned toward the conservative, but he chose interesting people on both sides of issues to interview and it was evident he did a lot of research before air time. Each segment was a well prepared interview, not a rant or unsubstantiated claim. Batchelor tried to present each issue in a balanced manner. www.johnbatchelorshow.com/

I stopped listening to Rush after he started taking himself seriously in the mid-90's. Before that he was a breath of fresh air, but after the Gingrich revolution he became a lot less playful. I think he forgot that genuinely funny political criticism is the most effective rhetorical weapon available. The first time I heard the infamous "Finger of Friendship" Dolphin Update I had to pull to the side of the road because I was laughing so hard.
Yeah, I know he still does occasional "Update" features, but it's just not the same.

Thanks, Dan. WJR 760 AM is BOOMING in here tonight and my loop isn't even pointed east-west! So I should have no problem picking them up off the air early in the morning. And they have an Live On Line service too. Thanks, I'll give a listen.

Rush still has an audience?! Wow, I heard him once when I was 15 and never tuned in again. O'Reilly was pretty good when he was balanced and asked the tough questions regardless who was in the hot seat. But even he has become extreme.

Swimmy, where have you been hiding. I miss your posts when you disappear for a period of time. You are not allowed to take unauthorized absences, seeing as how you are a charter poster, and need permission to take vacation time from the forum! Things get too quiet here when you and Dave and Frank are all gone at the same time, haha.

NEWS FLASH!!!!!!!
Chicago -
The Obama Campaign announced today that due to the increased boneheaded remarks by Joe Biden he will be replaced on October 10th by Tina Fay. "Its the only way we can get any attention" was the quote from one unnamed source close to the Senator.
In an unrelated (we think) story Hillary Clinton was seen running and screaming down the NYS Thruway from her office in Albany today.
