It is going to be an expensive day. The three balls I have in my locker hook too much to hit a 10 pin on the far right corner of the lane, so I ordered a new ball that doesn't hook so I can throw straight to pick up a 10 pin or spares on far right side of the lane.
Kathy is also ordering another ball because her ball is hooking too much on the oil pattern that they put down for league bowling. She is ordering a ball that hooks less but still hooks a bit. With the rods in her back she can't throw the ball with the power she used to.
Today is her birthday so I am buying her ball as a birthday gift and taking her to dinner.
Bowling can be expensive. The two balls will cost $345. I have 7 bowling balls and Kathy has 4, all drilled differently with different hook differentials for different oil patterns and different lane conditions. I always had a varied arsenal because we used to travel to tournaments and never knew what the lane conditions would be. I probably only need two or three now that we are bowling on the "old fart's league" and not traveling to tournaments as often as we used to.
When I started bowling in the mid-sixties you could buy a bowling ball at K-mart for $30. Now a bowling ball costs upward of $100 and most are closer to $200. Thank goodness bowling is our one and only costly recreational activity in our old age.
