Any ideas as to what could cause the problem? I have tried two sets of earbuds and two sets of headphones to no avail. I hate to take the tower in to the repair shop if it is something that is an easy fix that I can perform myself.

Troubleshoot your driver for sound. But not to sure. I bet CB or Ralph can help

If the speakers work and known good headphones and earbuds do not, the problem has to be in the headphone jack or the wiring to the headphone jack. I cannot think of a fix that does not involve opening the case of the computer.

Both the speakers and the headphones are out. I played around with the control panel trouble shooting option and got nowhere. I am just going to pack it up and take it to the Geek Squad or Computer Pro's. I will just have to live without the keyboard and mouse for a few days and use my Ipad to access the internet.

A really forehead slapping suggestion. On my computer the F1 key turns the sound off, F2 turns it on and F3 makes it louder. Is there any possibility a function key was pressed or a volume control turned down?

I tried it and it didn't work. I will be taking the tower to Computer Pro some day this week. In the meantime if I want to hear audio on a news piece or whatever I just grab my Ipad. It's not aas convenient or quick with no mouse or standard keyboard but it works for now.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

I had the same issue once. Had to replace the speakers. Cheap fix, less the $20 for the pair.

I probably have an extra pair of speakers around here somewhere. I have old hard wired keyboards, wired mouses, and assorted cords and cables from computers that have gone to recycling over the years. I will give it a try tomorrow. Thanks for the tip.

I had that happen to me once. Im hardly ever on my PC anymore to give you a quick answer…but some things to do is See if all your connections are secure Go to your PC networks and run a diagnostic to see if something didnt get turned off. Go to youtube and play something …do you hear it
