I have a friend here that loves spicy foods and hot peppers. He used to have a taco truck business and constantly experimented with different varieties of hot chili peppers and offered different levels of heat that you could choose for your taco meat.
He is always up for a challenge and one of his kids purchased a "Toe of Satan" lollipop and challenged him to lick it and suck on it at a family 4th of July picnic. The level of heat is rated at over 9 million Scoville units. I am still laughing at his reaction. He took one lick on it and was instantly hit with the unbearable heat without ever putting the sucker in his mouth. I found a video about it. I like spicy foods but long ago drew the line at Habanero. The video cracked me up. Why the hell anyone would want to put something like that in their mouth is beyond me.
A second video is hilarious but the language is a bit raw.
To actually suck on that thing and swallow your own saliva has to be pure hell when it hits your stomach, and god forbid what it feels like to move your bowels the next day.

I draw the line at long hots & hot cherry peppers. I've never tried Habaneros as someone told me there's no flavor, they just burn. I'll pass, thank you.

I have Habanero sauce that my neighbor bought and couldn't take, but I use it very sparingly in chili or salsa. For most other things I use Texas Pete which is pretty tame and does have flavor.

I knew a teacher who grew Habanero peppers he would bring a few to lunch and eat then raw like candy. He loved them.
I use the pepper sauce in the green bottled top which is much milder than the red one. I like that on scrambled or fried egg.

When I was stationed in Long Beach California in the 60s I had a Mexican neighbor in the apartment next to ours. Whenever my ship was in port he and I would sit on the front stoop in the evening and split a 6 pack of Lucky Lager tall boys while we worked on a quart jar of jalapenos with saltine crackers. I still like jalapenos and use them in salads and on sandwiches. I grew Anaheim chilis a few years back and they came out so hot that I gave them to my pepper loving friend. He used them in his recipe for birria meat for his tacos. I also had Kathy pickle some of the cherry peppers I grew that year. I ate one quart of them and gave the other 4 or 5 jars to my friend. I never tasted cherry peppers that came out so hot. When we are in Utica next week I will most likely have a kielbasa sandwich with long hots from Tiny's if the new owners still have them on the menu. If we get a chance to eat at Joe's I will have an order of long hots and an order of sweet peppers. I love to mix them half and half on the crusty Italian bread. I am getting old and can't take the heat like I used to. Jalapenos were a favorite on pizza when I worked at the firehouse on the base. We used to order a white pizza with double cheese and jalapenos. Now I go a bit more easy on the peppers and spicy food and keep the Tums nearby.

I used to like the long hots but no more cannot tolerate them. For my nephews graduation from high school many many years ago I BBQed a barrel of Italian long hots oh the air had a ting to it.

Our vacation flew by and I didn't get to either Tiny's OR Joe's for long hots. I had chicken riggies twice with cherry peppers. Once at the Upstate Tavern at the casino, and again at Tavolo's in N. Utica. Tavolo's riggies were outstanding. Upstate Tavern? Not so much. I had Giambotte at Breakfast at Tiffany's with hot cherry peppers. Giambotte at Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of the "must haves" when we are in the area. We always divide our time between visiting family and friends and a culinary tour of our favorite dining spots.
I was surprised to find out that the Freihofer store in Verona is still there. We loaded up with chocolate chip cookies for my brother and sister as well as two boxes for ourselves.

I love Giambotte but the last couple times I ordered from two different places it was terrible. I'll definately be ordering it from BAT soon. TR's on Bleecker St had the best in the city back in the day imho.

NOBODY'S Giambotte has ever come close to living up to TR's. That was back in the days when I was still up and awake when the bars closed. Now I couldn't eat at an "after hours" restaurant unless after hours was 11pm, lol.
