‘Banging’ heard in search for missing Titanic tourist submarine with less than 24 hours of oxygen left – live Follow live updates on the lost OceanGate Expeditions submersible with five onboard including Britishbillionaire Hamish Harding There are now less than 24 hours of oxygen left in the missing Titan submersible as rescue efforts continue for the five divers. A Canadian aircraft searching for the sub in the Atlantic Ocean detected intermittent “banging” noises from the vicinity of its last known location. This discovery was shared via internal e-mails sent to the heads of the Department of Homeland Security. The crew searching for the missing sub heard banging sounds every 30 minutes on Tuesday and again four hours later, after additional sonar devices were deployed. CEO and founder of OceanGate Expeditions Stockton Rush, British billionaire explorer Hamish Harding, renowned French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman Dawood are on the OceanGate Expeditions’ submersible, Titan. The watercraft submerged on Sunday morning from its support vessel to travel to the Titanic wreckage which sits at a depth of 12,500ft. About an hour and 45 minutes later, the Titan lost contact with its mother ship, the Polar Prince, authorities said. The Titan is equipped with a four-day emergency oxygen supply. It is estimated that the five missing passengers have less 24 hours of oxygen supply left inside the vessel. The US Coast Guard and Canadian Coast Guard are involved in rescue efforts. Sadly it is very doubtful that any successful recovery of the sub within the 24 hour period is possible. Hopefully they WILL be able to recover the sub at some point in order to recover the bodies of the individuals on board.
However tragic it may be it is hard to feel deep sympathy for the people who knew that the sub was uncertified for the depth at which the Titanic lies. I feel sorry for their families but the risks were known before the individuals ever signed up for the voyage. The entire idea of risking life and and paying an exorbitant amount of money in order to simply observe a rusting and coral encrusted wreck simply does not make sense to me.
The same applies to those who are willing to pay millions to go to the international space station. Pretty damned expensive sight seeing trip, basically to just see the planet earth from afar. 55 million dollars for a recreational rocket ride seems a bit steep to me.

I've never understood the appeal of visiting the Titanic, like you said a rusted out wreck which went down over 100 yrs ago. These expeditions imho stink to high heaven with the sub not certified to go down to those depths, no vessel accompnying it in case of an emergrncy, only enough O2 to last for four days etc., etc. And I think that the USCG is going to have to answer for this. Like, why did they allow this company to take passengers on a sub obviously unsafe, especially after a marine architect who worked for that outfit warned the owner that the vessel was unsafe & ended up quitting because of it. It's the USCG's job to inspect & certify vessels which carry passengers for a fee. It's a damn shame & I can only imagine what those poor souls are going thru.

If the vessel hasn't been subjected to a catastrophic failure (possibly a pressure induced implosion) those onboard will suffocate when the oxygen runs out. The laudable and intensive efforts to find the craft and rescue those onboard have pretty much run out of time. I sadly fear that even if they find the sub at this point it will be a matter or recovery of 5 bodies.
One thing I do not understand is why the craft was designed with no ability to open or secure the hatch from the inside. I am imagine it probably is a matter of the extreme outside pressures it must endure at the depth of the wreck. I suspect that before the day is over they will announce that the mission has moved from rescue to recovery.

Yes I fear the crew on board will not be rescued in time, Why that sub was even allowed to do this adventure I do not know,

LIVE UPDATES Missing Titanic sub crew believed to be dead, tour company says What we're covering Crew believed to be dead: Tour company OceanGate Expeditions said it believes the five passengers on board the missing Titanic-bound submersible have died. Sub debris found: The tail cone of the submersible was found approximately 1,600 feet from the bow of the Titanic on the sea floor, the US Coast Guard said Thursday. Officials said it was consistent with a "catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber." Who was on board: The passengers were Hamish Harding, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Paul-Henri Nargeolet and OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush. www.cnn.com/americas/live-news/titanic-missing-sub-oceangate-06-22-23/index.htmlSe eerie. They went to get a close view of the sunk Titanic and instead they have joined all those who died. Others just might want to stay away from that underwater burial site.

Apparently the vessel imploded shortly after they began their descent. Their last communication with the escort vessel said that they were having an isuue, were dropping the weights & were returning to the surface. Then silence. They never had a chance.
