I have to wonder how widespread the smokey haze from the Canadian wild fires is. It is only in the last few days that we have been affected to a noticeable degree. We can normally see the higher peaks of the Appalachians off in the distance to our East quite clearly. Yesterday afternoon we could not see the mountains at all.
I don't see anything about the fires themselves or the progress in fighting the fires mentioned in any of our media reports here.

Today the mountains are still shrouded in the haze but not as badly as yesterday. The surprising thing is that it is not seeming to affect the lower elevations in such a manner. We can see all the way to the higher mountains (about 15-20 miles away) but the tops of the mountains are barely visible. A friend sent a photo of the sunset over Oneida Lake yesterday. The haze made for a pretty sunset, but rather eerie looking.

Has been very hazy up here. Yesterday I did see wide swaths of clear blue sky.
