We took a ride yesterday to check out a small and peaceful campground on the Watauga River that a friend clued us in about. There are only 14 campsites, of which 8 are water side. Two wealthy investors from Johnson City who are avid fly fishermen purchased the property a few years ago and developed the campground to cater to a small group of fly fishing friends. Over the years they added electric and water hook-ups and a bath house with showers. I am sure that it is more of a tax shelter than anything else for the owners. An elderly couple run it for them. They don't advertise and limit a stay to seven days per visit. It is only 25 miles from home and the woman we talked to said it is quiet and peaceful with the exception of one weekend when the owners sponsor a small music festival weekend for friends and family with a live band and BBQ. www.facebook.com/campstonefly/The fishing is great. Photos on their Facebook page show some awesome brown trout that are plentiful in that stretch of the river. I talked to a guy that was fishing. He had caught and released two trout over 20 inches over a period of two days and had two freshly caught 10-12 inch trout on a stringer to keep and eat. We are planning to look at our calendar today and make reservations for at least 2 one-week visits after we return from our trip to NY in July. It is close enough to home for Kathy to follow me in the car in which I can put down a tarp and load some extra firewood, and we will have the car to run into Johnson City or Elizabethton to shop or eat out or could come home mid-week to grab the mail if we care to.

I spent the entire day outside today. I washed the outside of the motorhome and polished the chrome wheels, and then took it for a ride to insure all was well and all systems go. Stopped for gas and put $55 worth of gas in it, bringing it to 3/4 of a tank. Finished piddling with the motorhome and went on to trim a couple of low hanging limbs on our huge maple tree, mowed the half of the lawn that lays on the far side of the driveway, did some weed whacking, hosed down the driveway, and washed the car. Kathy was busy making chicken and dumplings for supper.
it is quite satisfying being bone tired after a productive day. I will be heading to the shower as soon as the derby is over, and probably will be hitting the feathers by about 10. All the chores are done so tomorrow we can enjoy a Sunday ride and dinner out.
