Clipper, if you're thinking the place near the Uptown (which, by the way, isn't a theater any more) was on Arnold Ave., it was torn down some time ago. It used to be Chips which was sort of a knockoff of a McDonald's. Then it became the ice cream place. There's a new car-wash there now (Pristine Auto Wash).

Why am I not surprised that the location now is home to a carwash? If that area is like this one, anytime you drive by a property that is being graded you can pretty much assume that there will soon be another carwash, credit union, or Dollar General. In the last two years carwashes have popped up all around us. I can drive to one of the modern new full service washes with all the options such as ceramic wax in less than10 minutes. We can even become "members" and enjoy unlimited washes for a monthly fee. I can't imagine wanting to have those fabric things flapping violently against the paint on my vehicle too frequently.

Back to the subject of Stewart's building in the old Raspberries location, allowing such a variance is an all out assault on the adjoining home owner's property values as well as their right to be able to peacefully enjoy their own property or sleep at night. The inconsiderate council members that approve such a variance deserve to have bar built next door to them with an outdoor patio and a loud juke box. Having lived across the street from the Herkimer Rd Fastrac I can attest to the fact that those places are not good neighbors. We had to put up with the noise from loud car radios and loud crowds of young people gathering in their parking lot, litter dumped on our lawn, along with the noise of cars tearing in an out all night. I have actual experience with that particular corner. In the 50's my dad and a partner ran a 2 bay, single island Gulf gas station at that location. they opened at 7am and closed at 9pm. The only possibly aggravating noise might have been the noise from the bell hose, and if the bay doors were closed it is doubtful that any neighbors would hear it. They were a neighborhood fixture and everyone knew them by name and in turn my dad and his partner knew just about everyone in the neighborhood.
