I woke up to 20 degrees at 8:30. It has warmed up 20 degrees in 2 hours and is forecast to warm to 60 by early afternoon. Time to find something outdoors to occupy the afternoon.

It was nice here today I think 51 degrees. I heard tell that one of these day it will be 60.I bought some tulips because I am sick at looking at dead bushes and naked trees. I wish I could find some forsythia. I love them.
I went to Kellogg Mall today at Hannaford. I wanted to buy a family pack of chicken legs with thighs I think they call them 1/4 legs but the package was to heavy so I will have to go back with my little red wagon.

Those bags of legs and thighs are usually 10lbs. I tad heavy to carry from the bus stop. Especially if you buy much else.

We are going to see 77 this afternoon, and 80 tomorrow, before returning to the normal 50s and 60s. The nights will still be quite chilly. It is going to be a beautiful day and I have to waste some of it staring out the window at the dentist's office, while getting my teeth cleaned. My dentist has large windows in all the exam and procedure rooms and outside each window there are bird feeders that are always active with bird activity.
I can't wait for temperatures to stabilize and become uniformly temperate so I can complete some outdoor projects before the sweltering summer heat sets in. I have a problem with some fairly large patches of lawn in the back yard that have been killed off by beetle grubs., as well as some dents and bare spots left over from the removal of the big walnut tree. I also want to either build a raised bed or prep a small section of the old garden plot big enough to accommodate a dozen bell pepper plants. No big garden this year. Coming to NY in July has always been a problem because everything seems to be at it's peak and I have to have someone watering and caring for the garden in the hottest and driest part of summer.

I walked around the backyard yesterday & it looks like we have a couple moles again this year which feed off grubs. I can see their tunnels so soon I'll be breaking out the mole killer & that will be the end of those suckers. I think I still have some. The substance of course is illegal in N.Y.S. so I just beat them at their own game & order it out of state off ebay, shipped right to my door.

I have a bag of Spectracide Triazicide granuals. I have been hesitant to spread it because of the dog, but it is safe for pets after being watered in well and let to dry. When I have a chance I will spread it and run a sprinkler on the area until the granules are all dissolved and watered in. I will just have to walk the little dog on a leash until the area dries. I probably will keep her out of the back yard for at least 24 hours after it has dried just to be safe. I need to have a couple of tons of good soil delivered to fill holes and dents in the lawn and to scatter over bare spots to prepare for seeding. It is going to be expensive, but I want to seed with the Scott's patch product that has the seed, fertilizer, and the green mulch in a mixture. The rest of the back lawn I will just give a quick and light reseeding with a broadcast seeder. I think part of my problem with the rest of the lawn was that I was cutting it too short last year. It was growing so fast that I was mowing about every 4th day in order to keep the clippings from getting out of control. I raised the deck up a notch this year, giving the grass another 12 inch to grow. It is unbelievable how fast the grass grows here.
We had moles just one year when we first moved here. I treated it with mole killer and have never seen another one. The mole killer was legal here at the time. I bought it at the local garden center. Since then they have cracked down a bit more on herbicides, insecticides, and other hazardous chemicals.

I use Tomcat Mole Killer. It resembles a worm & is about 6" long. I just look for an active tunnel where they're digging & stick the worm under the soil then cover the hole. The placement can be hit & miss so I look for soil that has recently been dug so I know where the critter is tunneling. I used that triactezide for grubs year before last. They laughed at the stuff. This year I'm using GrubX if I need to treat the lawn again. Probably do.
Not sure if I'm doing a garden this year. But I say that every year.

The record high temp for this date was 80, set in 1949. It hit 82 this afternoon and broke that record. Had the AC on this afternoon.
